Reproduction Zenith Carbs - any good?

I was just wondering if anyone had fitted one of the new
reproduction Zenith carburettors and are they any good? My old
one had the problem of warped casing and wondered if the new
ones have this problem fixed? They seem quite reasonable at £50?

I can only speak of the copy I had recently.
But I would say it depends on how fussy you are. I had one, it
ran, the idle was smooth and unfaltering, the engine revved ok.
But when on the motor way, the mixture felt decidedly weak at
high speed, confirmed by running with the choke slightly out,
and then it ran fine at high speeds, but too rich at low speeds.
I decided to repair the original zenith in the end, look for my
post about fuel starvation for more details. I found some NOS
zenith bottom bodies on eBay for £8 a pop so I bought one of
those, but not fitted it yet as it's still running well with my
       repair to the original.
I kept the copy carb as it cost bugger all and it will do as a
"get out of trouble" type of spare part.
Probably I would think about repairing the carb you had, the
warped body can usually be fixed as long as you don't mind a bit
       of elbow grease.
       This may be of use,

I found this copy of a US club magasine a while ago - in it
there are details on the Zenith warping issue and how to cure it

Thanks Guys, I currently have a webber on there but it seems to
have less power than the Zenith that was on originally so am
keen to return to a Zenith.

Stick an SU HS6 on it, as per the ACR upgrade ;) Dead easy to
set up, even out in a field. Slightly more thirsty than the
       Zenith apparently but more responsive.

I guess it all depends on how important originality is to you. I
have heard the SU is a good conversion, and I do like SU carbs
as I run them on other vehicles. But I have always been happy
with a good zenith for the 2 1/4 engine.
I seem to recall the webber is more economical but achieves the
extra economy by simply being a little too small for the job.
Thus lacking oomph to some degree.
It shouldn't be too difficult to rebuild the zenith that should
       be there.
That said, I know from other vehicles (2 and 4 wheeled) carb
choice is very much like oil or tyres. So many opinions and so
       many options.
