Don't get me wrong, it looks a lovely thing and well cared for
But you can't be too careful nowadays
After you said you wanted to put it back to how it was I
wondered if it was going to spoil what you already have

Cheers chaps, thanks for the replies!
We won't be doing any jibs to her in any sort of a hurry, the
aim is to use and enjoy her as much as possible. Any jobs like
putting back to S2 will be well planned out in advance. I don't
want a concourse landy, I'm after a good honest use able beastie
       :)

Nice looking motor you have there. Don't want to piss on your
fire but anyone can rivit a vin plate to a panel and change the
ID and year of a series. Especially to make it tax free.Your
motor looks more series 3 than 2A. By the time you have swapped
all the 3 bits for 2A you would have totally rebuilt the thing.
I would leave it as it is. I would also take copies of the
receipt you got when you bought it just in case the rozzers take
       an interest.
       I don't mean to offend.

Looks to be a lovely Landy, but as peeps have already said -
that looks to be a S3 rather than a S2. If I were you I'd check
the engine, gearbox and axle serial numbers and see if they
tally with the date on your registration document. This is a
       handy reference for you -
  HTML http://www.lrfaq.org/Series/FAQ.S.Chassis_Numbers.Year.html

Don't be too disheartened if nothing tallies - you'll probably
lose the historic vehicle entitlement and get a Q registration
if its checked, thats all. It obviously affects the value, but
you'll still have a nice looking Landy.

If I found myself in this situation I would spend some time
locating the stamped in number on the chassis to confirm it
matches the documents. As has been said a metal plate riveted to
       a panel is no proof.
As the registration document is linked to the chassis this is
important to clarify for your own peace of mind.
If this can not be found where it should be or there are signs
of over stamping/alterations then questions will need to be
       asked.
Hope all goes well and answers are favourable.

If it does turn out to be a series 3 with a 2a identity, MY
advice would be to just leave it if you get the Dvla involved
       you may regret it.
       Just my opinion.

No offense taken chap, no worries.
It's starting to look rather dubious as to its authenticity. Hey
ho, never mind! We've got all the paperwork, receipt etc which
I will copy and keep in the cab. The 1st step is to take it back
to late S2a with the razor bonnet and wire mesh grille. Maybe in
the future look for wings and a radiator panel, and I'm sure dad
and I can, between us, re-engineer the interior to fit S2 style
       gauges and controls.
Still fairly positive about it... or trying to be! We will make
summat good out of it and have us some fun I'm sure.

Makin the wings back to s2A will be quite simple. All you'll
have to do is fill in the heater intake hole. You could rivet a
plate behind it using the screw holes but using countersunk
       rivets so all looks flush.
I've just had a s2a wing to go on my series 3 this month
