Another vote here for a binding brake being the most likely
culprit. A failing wheel or FWH bearing will make a bit of a
racket when the wheel is rotated, only takes a few ticks to jack
up each corner and have a listen and you can check for brake
binding at the same time. It'd be worth getting an assistant
(i.e. dad) to press the brake pedal then release, and see how
long it takes for the effort of the brake to release, and if it
       does so fully.
Out of interest has the 2a been laid up for a while or had
little use prior to you buying it? Series drum brakes are
typical of their era of design, they work well enough when
looked after and used regularly but can be a PITA if left for
long periods. Many of our customers at work gripe at how much
labour their old buses and coaches need spent on fettling brakes
each year, 9 times out of 10 the faults occur due to lack of
       use.
