Fantastic this 2A has gone to a good home, it's one I have a
soft spot for being a Surrey machine. :giddy:
This one, WPL704G, has been with Surrey Ambulance Service from
new AFAIK. I did quiz a mate of mine who is a paramedic for
Surrey and I think he said 704 was based at Banstead. It's
sister, WPL703G, still resides at Chertsey Ambulance Station
(the main one, close to St Peters Hospital) although I believe
it has been sold to an ambulance staff related charity. Here are
some pics from 704s eBay listing mandy:

It would be interesting to find out more about the WPL---G
batch, latterly breakdown wagons I assume they started life as
       ambulances.
Here's 701, sadly last on the road in 1999 according to the
       DVLA:

       and 703:

No pics of 702 although it's taxed+tested and green according to
       the DVLA.

       Yep, that's her Noel.
Been with the ambulance authority from new. Loads of history,
very very solid. Surface rust on some outriggers and some
chassis paint just starting to crack in places. But I think the
most solid leafer I have seen other than rebuilds.
I intend to make my own mark on her in a subtle way, but I
definately go more for repair and preservation rather than
restoration. She will not be getting shiny new paint and fancy
alloy wheels as I think She should wear her history with pride.
I have already replaced the ambulance radio with a normal radio,
but that was an old old one I found on eBay, I didn't want a
fancy new thing in her cosbit wouldn't sit right. Also, I did
switch the ambulance radio on, but all it did was beep at me
       loudly and repetitively.
God knows what used to be in the back, but the floor was
reinforced by a solid piece of 1/2" thick steel. Took 4 of us to
lift the bugger out. I have also removed the flashy lights from
the roof and sirens at the request of mr insurance man.

she is a thing of beauty, is the cylinder in the passenger foot
       well for the air horns.

I reckon the steel may be a throw back from her days as an
       ambulance?
Certain vehicles (I think Daimlers as an example) that were
ambulances, had concrete ballast in them, to provide a smooth
ride. So the steel may have been to preserve the weak!!

Should fit a set of spinners ;D
Lovely truck! Bet that'll get loads of attention at shows!
Also must be a rare sight now actually having an ambulance
       rather than a camper conversion

HippyDave, yes the cylinder you see is the compressor for the
       sirens.
S219012J, you could be right with the steel. NoelC I don't
suppose you have pic vies of the insides of the others to see if
they had huge great lumps of steel as well? Incidentally it's
here and free to collector if anyone has any use for a big chunk
       of steel.
Samc88, I don't think she will ever be a show vehicle. Not
planning any resto work, just preventative stuff to keep her as
she is. You may well see her at shows, but only as a visitor.
Prof-pat-pending, got an old hostess trolley in the loft,
       closest I got I'm afraid.
She does seem to get a lot of attention. Random people stop and
talk to me when I'm out on the drive tinkering with her, which
is all well and good, bit I'm a miserable c&@t. And just want to
       get on with me tinkering.
A few days after I got her, I was still waiting for DVLA to sort
the tax class out so she was just sat on the drive, the wife was
taken ill so I rang 111 who sent an ambulance out to her. 2
paramedics went rushing upstairs to deal with her while the
driver stopped to ask about the 109. Turned out he recognised it
as his partner worked for SW ambulance people. So he was stood
texting pics of it to her saying he had found it. Eventually
they took wifey to hospital and they fixed her up nicely.
