Series 3 2.25 Petrol Water Pump Leak and the Bleeding Clutch
       By: D4B Date: November 17, 2015, 6:34 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hi All,
Still slogging away whenever I find time on the Series 3
       rebuild....
       Today's silly questions:
After refilling with water and antifreeze, it drips a lot from
the lower water pump bolt. Is this a sign that the pump is shot
(leaking from a tell tale hole)
or is it because I didn't use some kind of sealant on this bolt?

Also any advice on bleeding the clutch hydraulics would be
       appreciated.
I tried connecting my Gunsons Eezi Bleed and it tried to squirt
fluid over my freshly painted bulkhead,
luckily I had rag everywhere at the ready.... Probably wasn't
getting a good seal at the cap.
       Cheers Steve

Whilst I found the Eezibleed was great for brakes it is next to
useless on the clutch. I got one of those cheapo pipes / tub
(with a valve in the pipe), attached it to the bleed nipple,
cracked the nipple open a touch and got booting the clutch
pedal. Took about 6 pumps and all was good.

have you had the pump off recently? whats the back story ?
the pumps have a built in fail point for its internal seal, ie
the seal that prevents water getting past the housing and
rotating axle of the pump. its a drilled hole at 6 o clock at
the very bottom of the "nose" of the pump. you can see it right
in the middle of this picture...

need to get undeneath and look up to see if its from that hole.
if it really is coming from the bolt its more likely pump
       gasket failure.
i also gave up with EZbleed on the clutch, the cap threads were
correct but it never bit down properly. in the end just did one
man method like doug, theres another EZbleed kit with Just a
hose that has ball valve in the end, need to be very careful
though as the reservoir is tiny, you'll empty it after a few
       complete strokes of the pedal

       Cheers Gents,
Will go and check the water pump more closely, and give up on
       the Eezi Bleed as suggested.
DarrenH: Yes I had the pump off when the engine was out, really
just because everything was so filthy and rusty around there....
Perhaps my gasket is not sealing as it should.
       report to follow dogwalk

Cheers ashcrroft752, something else for my christmas list 8)
Water pump: it was leaking from the tell tale hole,
so new one on order together with a TRW clutch master and slave
       cylinders just in case!
(Well I didn't want to pay the £5 delivery charge you see)
       Skint again now though..........

       cool :)
you can buy overhaul kits for the pumps, new bearing and seal.
but it involves taking the impeller off the shaft, pull this,
backlash that, endfloat this, push that 92 microns otherwise the
world will explode. in the end i just got a new pump too !

If you're doing master and slave it's also worth doing the
flexible pipe as well because they can go bad with age. I put a
steel braided one on mine, sure it means I can no longer clamp
it off if I need to remove the slave cylinder, but that's no big
       deal really.

I still get away with gravity bleeding clutch and brakes. Never
had a problem in over 35 years with Landies.
