Hello folks i have just joined as i am thinking about buying a
series land rover as a project, i have had an inferior Japanese
vehicle in the past but i don't have much experience with leaf
sprung land rover any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ow-doo.. Glad you have seen the light and abandoned the jap way
of life :thumbs: I would say take your time finding one, read
lots and expect a project to cost more and take longer than
planned.

You can learn from my mistakes, try to find one which already
has a galvanized chassis (and bulkhead)

Welcome along chief. As you have already been advised, take your
time looking,don't let enthusiasm run away with you. ALWAYS take
a sceptic with you for reflection of what you're looking at.
Chassis/bulkhead, can't stress enough. A bit of easy to get at
stuff on an otherwise good chassis should not put you off nor a
footwell or two,door pillars and round the vents can be a ball
ache.
My guess is you'll know it when you see it! :smilewide:

Welcome along. As others have said take your time to find the
right one, they can be a money pit. Where in Ireland are you ? I
get over there three or four times a year.

Thanks for the advice lads, i have looked at a few so far but
they were pretty bad with rust it looked like i am going to have
to dig a little deeper into the pocket to get something decent.
this might seem like a silly question but would any of you
consider buying a series land rover that was modified say for
instance one with power steering with range rover axles or
even an engine swap like a transit unit or a perkins prima if
the price was right or would it be better to stick to an
original one.

buying wise it depends on your taste and needs/wants, those mods
are on quite a few motors in one form or another, and if done to
a good standard suit the motor and owners well enough. If its an
everyday day driver those engines do offer a wee saving fuel
wise and the perkins will go forever.

Like Dave said, check it's all done well and it should be ok. As
long as it's what you want and your happy with instead of
something closer to original then go for it.
