       remote servo on Series ii

       Hello chaps (and chappesses)
My series 2 is behaving oddly - it idles badly and cuts out on
braking, and the servo assist is ... erm ... intermittent. I
suspect the remote servo diaphragm may be leaking.
I have been looking at replacement units available for MGBs on
ebay and am wondering if there is anything more that i have to
       consider other than physical fit.
I have no idea of the actual make of the servo that is fitted.
Below is a a link to a picture of my existing remote servo

I'd welcome any opinions or advice, ta.
       Chris

Diameter and stroke of the cylinder are mega important.
Personally I would junk it all and go back to a standard landy
system even if it was non servo assisted.
The standard series 3 servo assisted system can only be
described as awsome! And even non servo assisted 109 brakes can
easily lock up the wheels unless you carry a very heavy load.
88 Brakes are a little less effective but even in non servo form
they can litarally stand an 88 on its front wheels and put a lot
of air under the rear wheels.
If your brakes do not behave like this then you have something
wrong. And I would put the time and effort into fixing the
       brakes rather than anything else.

It is a Clayton Dewandre 701686. The repair kits are:
       Minor repair kit 701865
       Non-return valve kit 700966
       Poppet valve kit 700986
I doubt that you will find those. I repaired mine from a NOS one
       I had on the shelf.
It was a standard fit for early Shorlands

It should be as simple as swapping one for the other. I've a
generic modern 1.9:1 boost ratio one from an MG specialist on
       eBay. It works well.
With drum brakes you want around the 2:1 boost ratio mark. With
       discs about 3:1.

       I'd entirely agree. My '66 109" had a Girling Powerstop 6209
remote servo fitted on the N/S footwell, presumably as an
ex-Wilts Fire Brigade motor they assumed it would be driven
quickly(!) and wanted a reduction in pedal pressure. A few years
after buying it I noticed white/yellow smoke on overrun that
smelled odd. Scratched my head for a while until the brake pedal
hit the deck. It'd obviously failed in such a way as to burn
brake fluid on overrun. Nasty. I did away with it and returned
to a standard 109 system, must be 10 years ago now. No
complaints on performance. Plus the LPG vapouriser fits lovely
where the remove servo was. :-)
