       Door Tops
       By: wyrmat1 Date: October 23, 2015, 8:40 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have just received new door tops and window channel for my
series 2a and was about to fit existing glass. Paddocks sent 3
pieces of window channel for the bottom, top and back upright,
however i am not sure how i can fit this and get the sliding
window in, i feel something is missing???
Any ideas please on what i need to do

Have you got all of the aluminium bits as well as the channel?

It's been a while since I've done one - if memory serves you fit
the fixed pane, put the lower piece of channel in then with the
side and top pieces loose and pressed on the glass slot the lot
in, slide the pane forward and then drill/screw. The glass won't
go in with the channel pre-fitted to the door top. New, sharp
drill bits are essential for this job!

I have never done one (yet)
I imagine you have this kit:

       ?
Have you tried speaking to Paddock? The advert says made in UK
so perhaps you can speak to the manufacturer?
       Cheers Steve

You want to get an old buggered scrap doortop ( ideally a
standard one that's been put together by the factory ) and take
it apart, noting how it goes together, then apply the intel to
the new components you have ( ..re-assembly the reverse.. etc )

well the front non movable half is stuck in with dum dum (or
butyl roll these days) and has retaining strips screwed to
       frame
then you put your packing strips and spacers into the door
frame. then fit the felt runners to the top and bottom of the
actual glass, then pop the glass (with runners still on it) in
the channel at the bottom of the door, then slide the top home
       into the door frame.
guessing next bit is where you are stuck, you cant screw the
runners to the door frames because the glass is in the way, well
you basically have to slide the glass all the way "open" drill
and screw the exposed length of runner, slide the glass "shut"
drill and screw the front portion of exposed runner. same again
for the top runner. the upright along the tail of the door can
be fitted whenever but needs to line up of course
i did all the above twice, made all the holes then took
everything out to treat the bare metal from drilling
