what i dont understand is that on 5 main bearing version they
removed that crank seal completely, the main cap is open at the
back, oil is allowed into the cavity between the block and
flywheel housing, then the seal is on the flywheel flange
instead ?? its just as mental as having a "seal" in two halves

I knew there was a difference between 3mb and 5mb but didn't
know what. I do now :smilewide: I have one of each that both
need sorting.

After many hours / days (!!) struggling with the crank oil seal,
the engine was introduced to it's new home:

In other news, 13 weeks had passed, and I was able to collect
the refurbed bulkhead...

In preparation fpor painting, I prepared the freshly galvanized
bulkhead with this as recommended by Ashtree Landrovers:

Which seemed all wrong as it ended up looking like this:

But the instructions were to thoroughly rinse it off with water
and prime asap...........

top coat, Marine Blue of course, using aerosols of paint mixed
by my local paint factors, gave excellent coverage.

always seemed mad to me, deliberately putting acid on your new
galvanise item, to eat the surface away so that paint will stick
!
its deffo the correct product and way to do it, but yeah just
the logic of it ! t-wash is 5-10% phosphoric acid, the same
stuff they put in fizzy soft drinks :o

Also the Bulkhead was mounted, with some difficulty actually,
had to use a bottle jack between the chassis and a lower foot
to persuade it out about another 12mm, Ashtree Landrover assured
me this is to be expected after hot dip galvanizing ???
