head swap

Morning chaps.
Can a 3 bearing head be swapped onto a 5 bearing motor, or the
other way round.? I suspect i have one unleaded and one not. Is
there anyway to tell from the outside, any stamps by whoever did
it etc or is a case of just having a look inside.?
Cheers :smilewide:

if you clean the carbon off the exhaust valve seats youd be able
to see the edge of the hardened insert. a few mm out from the
circumference of the valve itself. if it were "unleaded
converted"

The head can be swapped, but bear in mind the 5MB head is most
likely metric, whereas the 3 is imperial. Doesn't matter for
the head bolts themselves, but some of the other threads may be
different. IIRC I have an imperial head on my metric engine,
and I think the temperature sender and thermostat bolts were
different. Can't remember if the banjo bolt for the oil feed
needed changing (it was a while ago!)

If the head is metric the banjo bolt is different as Doug
suggested, I remember having to get a different one when I
swapped heads on summat a few years back.
