Well I managed to bag another replacement part yesterday, this
time a new-old-stock steering relay. No biggie for a normal
Series, but the Stage 1 has a unique relay made of unobtainium.
It wasn't cheap but on the other hand I paid more for the PAS
box on my Td5 Disco a few years back so I'm still happy with it
       - just hope it genuinely turns out to be NOS not an old
knackered one thats been cleaned up!
With the forecast looking dry this weekend, we've decided to
move the roof tent over onto the 109 so that I can get the
Patriot rack on the Disco sold off. A local club member has
asked for first dibs, but if he doesn't want it I'll advertise
it here. I know a number of us have a more modern Landy as well
as a Series so it might appeal to someone. The downside is that
the Brownchurch on the 109 will have to stay put for a while -
       sorry Jonny.

Thanks! Its a military 12v gauge cluster. The stage 1 already
has an oil pressure gauge, so thats covered, but I want to keep
an eye on oil temp as well, particularly when we're abusing the
engine a bit - going over the Alps or crossing Morocco in 40+
       degree heat etc.
Yep, I'll have to stick the jewel lamp somewhere. Determined to
keep it all looking OEM still ;) I was going to fit a Raptor
type unit on the dash, but the new cluster means that I
probably will be able to avoid that now :) The radio and CB will
either go in a cubby box between the front seats, or else will
go in an overhead console like EskValleyBoy has made - I really
like how neat and discrete that has turned out.

i noticed in the parts manual the guages are modular, like
behind those 3 holes are 3 separate gauges bolted in. wondering
of you could make hybrids but i suppose you are limited to what
       12v units are available

Absolutely right you can. The only problem is getting the right
gauges to match the label on the facia - the fuel gauge for
example can be top right or bottom; the oil temp can be top left
or bottom, water temp can be top right top left or bottom lol.
It arrived today and I was over the moon - it really is a new,
genuine Smiths unit. But my heart sank when I looked at the
gauges - they're all marked 24v :banghead Nooooooooooooooooooo!
So I'm going to have to send it back. Really peeved at that, so
       near yet so far :(
