Thats not a bad price either Darren. I'd be tempted by that, but
like you, I have a drawer full of various relays and connectors
that I can use. The only thing I'm going to do differently is
use super-seal connectors to replace the bullet connectors which
allow the wings to be removed.
No problem Jonny. If its only a few squids you can have it FOC.
Not going to quibble over that ;)
I'm trying to prepare myself mentally for replacing that fuel
tank - I've got to empty half a tank of fuel first which will be
fun! I think I'll take a hose off the fuel pump and use the pump
to empty the tank. Probably the safest option - I certainly
won't be syphoning it off by sucking it through a pipe! I
had a friend who tried that many decades ago - he was violently
ill and it was quite worrying at the time!
I'm also on the look out for a V8 airbox and elbows - I've had a
few friends who have said they 'might have one' but nothing has
turned up yet. There is a new old stock one for sale on eBay -
for over £300 :haha: Think I might give that one a miss.

       300 QUID....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuck that wagfinger
Does the tank not have a drain bolt on the bottom.? Don't do
what i did when draining off a 'insert name of jap 4x4' and
forget it's emptying followed by running out of containers
:rolleye0012: In my defence, the fuel guage said there was only
half a tank or so. How was i to know it had a 90ltr tank
:rolleye0012: It kept wiffi's 65mpg car going for ages though
       :smilewide:

Yep the tank has the drain plug, but it seems pretty rusted in -
I reckon if I try and persuade it open, I'll just open up all
the crusty tank seams :o Hence my preference for using the
       electric fuel pump!
I've also got a lead on a friend of a friend who has some 12v
military gauges - the triple segment ones which have fuel, water
temp and oil temp. If he has them and they're a reasonable
price, I'll be fitting that as part of the upgrade. I want to
keep everything factory-spec looking, but suited to our needs.
Still pondering over the seats - she currently has the 'deluxe'
vinyl ones but I'm considering fitting some early 90/110
'Moorland' type ones. Not sure yet... Ditto the dashtop - ours
is damaged on the passenger side which has been repaired with
some rubbery spread. Yak. Not sure if I should just recover it
with black vinyl again or use leather - I have a roll of cream
leather (which I can dye of course) left over from a previous
project. Its actually off an old sofa that a neighbour was
putting in a skip :) And then there is the colour - do I stick
with black, or do I go with tan or 'aged' brown leather???
       Decisions decisions...

Best not to try forcing the drain nut then. Not sure if later
seats are more comfy, been ages since i was in a debender. On
the dash top note, i have a good one on a series 3 i bought the
       other week :smilewide: :smilewide:
Gauges should look good in there, be interesting to see them
       fitted

recemtly replace my "deluxe" ??? seat bases as the original
ones were giving me shooty arse pains, you know the old coccyx
       area
bought a couple new repro bases, like for like, from exmoor trim
(30 quid) and its absolutely transformed comfort levels.
i had the moorland high backs in my 84 ninety and they are
essentially the same as deluxe, but with cloth on. just as bad
on the tail bone in my experience but does give it a slight
       "county" tart up

I have one of these gauges on the 88, a decent upgrade. On the
2.5 petrol there is a blanking plug in the oil filter housing
the correct thread for a sender so it's an easy upgrade. FYI -
these military clusters are designed to run off 12 volts
straight, don't run them through the civvy voltage regulator. If
you do they'll pulse up and down wierdly. Ask me how I know.
       :rolleye0012: :haha:
On the subject of headlamp upgrades, the Autopal glass crystal
type you've got are OK, I've got them on the ambulance stateside
as plastic doesn't last 5 minutes in the Idaho sun. The Wipac
plastic crystal type are definitely superior in terms of light
output and beam pattern but scratch really easily. Horses for
courses I suppose, both types are much better than standard. TBH
I've not had a problem with H4s and genuine Lucas stalks. The
pattern shite from Paddocks lasts 5 minutes, although at least
that wiring upgrade kit looks reasonable.

Thanks for that Noel - great tip about the voltage regulator

I've now got a replacement gearbox coming down from Scotland -
via eBay lol. Its another LT95, but possibly off a 110, and with
an overdrive. I understand that the overdrives fitted to the
LT95s are a much more heavy duty build, so that was a great
bonus. If it is a 110 unit, then the final drive ratio should be
       better too.
The plan is to get the gearbox and OD overhauled by my mechanic
friend, and then 'just' swap them over. I reckon the LT95
currently fitted is utterly FUBAR'd, I've never heard so many
banshees stuck in a gearbox, so it'll probably get weighed in
sadly. I'll scavenge whatever is worth keeping for spares of
course ;) I could have gone down the R380 route I guess, but as
I've mentioned before, I want to keep it as OEM looking as I
       can.
I've also picked up an airbox and elbows off an early Range
Rover Classic. They need a good clean up and repaint, but will
do the job nicely when done. No other progress made so far I'm
afraid. I intended on swapping the fuel tank over this weekend,
but I ended up helping for my parents instead. Maybe next
       weekend...!

well done getting an overdrive with the box. that will make
things better. Do you think you will be on the road next year.?

Technically its on the road now - it has 9 months of MoT left on
       it!!! :o
Its got to be on the road next Spring as we've got a few short
weekend jaunts in readiness for the Scotland/Wales/Ireland tour
in August. A key milestone is getting its mechanically straight
by Feb, LPG in by April, fully camper prepped by June - but even
that is cutting it a bit tight lol.
