Are all Engine Mounts the same ?
By: moakley Date: September 5, 2015, 4:25 am

Hi
WE will get this Landie running eventually...one step forward 2
back...
So Gearbox back in and we replaced the mounts....but some how
used the part for engine (front) mounts NRC2054....on the
gearbox
Front Broke in process...so replacing today...but is there a
difference between front and rear mounts? Could I leave them as
they are or do I need to replace the gearbox for the right part
NRC2053.....
they all look the same...
Advice appreciated..
Thanks

They are different, AFAIK the rubber is a different compound
however realistically it can't be a vast difference. I bet
non-genuine are all the same poor quality rubbish just with a
different number on the label.
A word of warning - pattern part engine mountings are SHITE.
Britpart ones, well:

When I fitted the 2.5 petrol in my 88 I had vibration issues.
ALL were cured when I chucked the aforementioned blue boxed
excrement in the bin and fitted genuine. If you have a look at
LRDirect they do OEM quality mounts.

Front engine mounts are usually round gear box mounts usually
square!

Just to add to the confusion diesel engine mounts are different
to petrol.
Some suppliers on Ebay supply 4 mountings for very little money
with nothing to say they are engine or gearbox, what they are is
Shite.

Petrol mounts (526777 front/272191 rear) are round. Diesel
mounts (562688) are square. You CAN put diesel on a petrol, but
I don't advise petrol on a diesel.

I just buy defender mounts now, they are slightly larger
diameter but the same mount for tdi and v8, just need a little
trimming on the near side front mount for a series
chassis.......
Work well for me, less vibration :rolleye0012:

For diesels I believe Bearmach are the better compound.
Glencoyne supplies the correct ones (with softer rubber compound
as per genuine) because not even all the quality makes are
correct. Either way it has made my TD series much smoother

For my petrol 2.25 I have used many different suppliers over the
years both petrol and diesel. With a smooth running engine there
really is hardly any difference. I even used larger v8 ones for
the gearbox to help stop the transmission handbrake from moving
the engine so much. Still nice and smooth.
Different story altogether when it comes to a diesel engine
though.
Had a couple of tdi conversions and also a regular with a 2.25.
I have tried everything I could find available and none of the
standard series compatible mounts give anywhere near an
acceptable driving or riding experience. So much so that I
changed my mind with my new personal vehicle and refused to fit
the tdi and am building a nice 4 cyl petrol for it. The only
nice tdi/series vehcle I have seen/driven had been fitted with
defender mounts requiring chassis mods to fit them. That was
nice enough to be acceptable for me.

I'm running 200tdi with petrol mounts on the engine and diesel
on the gear box both of unknown manufacture, knowing where they
came from the only guarantee is they aren't genuine.
Doesn't vibrate much, most certainly not as much as it did with
the Perkins Prima on the same mounts.
