       Gearbox out and nearly in....advice?

Seatbox out, gearbox out, clutch out and replaced....going to
post some pictures when done with lessons learned...BUT
Gear box is in, engaged with engine Ok, bell housing all done
       up...so looking good except...
How the hell do you line the gearbox mountings with the bloody
bracket on the chassis ? RH side (driver) is in but LH is NOT -
would have thought a bit a minor juggling would do and that it
should just sit in place, but holes not lined up at all... a
little forward snd too far to the left.
       any thoughts please...

Are your mounts on right? - They're handed.
If so, it will line up, but you might have to fiddle about a
       bit.
I've used a small scissor jack in the past, used horizontally to
shove the box to where it needs to be, and a big old screwdriver
through the holes in the mount as a lever.

Will keep grunting until it moves right then...thanks

Check your engine mountings haven't snapped.

As for the prop, have you pulled it to it's max travel?
       Dunno what else to suggest.

Thanks, will check the engine mountings...hadn't thought of
       that...presumable easy to spot ?
If its the engine mounts is that a jack under to lift and change
       then or engine out?

You can change them with a jack underneath. Best put a board
       across the sump.

       Hi,
From memory, all engine and gear box mounts have the projecting
screws in line. Memory says that I have also met mounts that
have the projecting screws NOT in line ... but memory won't tell
       me where I met them.
There are two "spacer" plates fitted between the mounting
rubbers and the chassis. I'm pretty sure the one fits under the
driver's side engine mount, and THINK the other fits under the
passenger side gearbox mount. The engine mounting spacer is
written in stone, will only fit in one place. The gearbox spacer
can be fitted either side, and will tilt the engine sideways if
you get it wrong. I'm working with a new PC, have not yet worked
out how to download pictures. Can anybody post a picture of the
relevant page from the parts book?
In your case, I suggest that you slacken the front mounts, top
and bottom, and "jemmy" the gearbox in the desired direction. If
you have a crane, try taking a little bit of weight of the
mounts, use a long screwdriver to line up the holes as you lower
       things?
I don't suppose you have a military gearbox steady bar (to stop
the fan going through the rad) .... and have already tightened
       it?
       Good luck
