Windscreen washers
By: kiwi s3 Date: August 9, 2015, 4:39 am

Hi everyone,
My 1978 S3 has never had screen washers fitted. Fitting them
has been on my 'to do' list for some time and I've located the
feed wire and bought the nozzles and the pump, with just the
tubing and the bottle to go - which is where I need some advice.
Using the excellent Parts Catalogue I got for my birthday - the
official hose Part number is RTC3650, but I can't find this
available locally. There's plenty of tubing available, but I
need the diameter - does anyone know what it is?
Then there's the problem of the bottle (PRC1080) which costs
about 50 quid from most places. I'm not paying that sort of
money for a plastic bottle, so before I rig up an old milk
carton with some cable ties - are there any other, better
options? Bottles for other cars I have looked at are all
strange shapes and wont sit flat against the inner wing.
Cheers,
Mark,
Wellington, NZ.

I'd try and source the Wipac kit as shown here:

Even if you've got some parts already this is a little over £20
here for the whole shooting match and would be worth it even if
you don't use everything.

I made up a metal frame to hold a half gallon container (had
screenwash in originally I think).. bolted it to nearside inner
wing and used an electri pump.
Cheap and cheerful but gives an adequate supply.

I've got a new kit in the shed somewhere, from a few years back,
I'll dig it out for you, I can't see me using it.

Thanks all for your responses,
When I view the ebay auctions, I get the message that the seller
"Doesn't post to New Zealand" - that's the trouble with living
at the end of the world!
As Jackual has mentioned, we do have a similar auction site in
NZ, but there is less choice. Some nice stainless steel tanks
for lots more than a genuine plastic one, and some kits for NZD
70, which still seems pricey for a plastic bottle.
The 'bag' option looks familiar - were these ever fitted to
Landrovers, or am I thinking of one of my dad's other old cars?
Jackual - I'd certainly been keen on your kit, I'm sure we can
work out a deal if you can find it.
P.S. - my "excellent Parts Catalogue" seems to have a page
missing - there isn't a section that covers the upper tailgate
(catflap). Was this not a standard option? - most of them in NZ
seem to have these.
Cheers,
Mark,
Wellington, NZ.
