Today, i put both wings on my mates 88, header tank, floors,
tightening of bolts and such, first start up since it was
crashed.
then i had my first attempt at spraying, front panel went great,
as did one door, other door, i got a couple of small runs on,
but nothing i can't sand out and gloss over again, and one wing
panel, that went absolutely perfect, then a fly landed in
it..... little fucker.
also towed a tree out after the wind brought it down, and sawed
it up.

I spent this morning changing a wheel cylinder.
Not because it was leaking, but because the bleed screw had
rusted in and stripped the thread when undone. Aluminium wheel
cylinders are bad for this - I've seen it so many times now.
Replaced with a new Delphi (cast iron) cylinder and bleed up,
and all should be well.
I've got the front end brakes to rebuild next week - I ordered a
full set of cylinders last night (a couple are weeping slightly)
and I've splashed out and bought TRW/Lucas branded shoes - time
will tell if they were worth the extra £££ over the Mintex ones
(not really been over impressed with the Mintex shoes - granted
they are worlds better than the Birpart/Allmakes ones, but they
still lost their bite very quickly in use, and not from oil
contamination).
This afternoon I collected 3 gearboxes - a complete Series 3 box
(that's to go in ASAP, as the on in Bitsa has 3 working gears,
and no bearings in the transfer box) and a Long stick LT77 with
output spline wear, plus a very good short stick LT77 and a
disco ratio LT230 with a dead centre diff... I feel a 5 speed
conversion for Bitsa coming on shortly..

I've been in the nice warm shed working on the steam engine and
looking forward to a chilly day outside tomorrow on the 80" and
Mini... :-\

If it's any cause of amusement, there's another engine going in
too shortly (ideally same time as the gearbox as changing both
together isn't that much more work than changing either
seperately). Not that there is anything wrong with the engine
currently fitted (far from it - it's an A1 unit), it's just it's
only on loan to me, and it's about time it's rightful owner got
it back, now I've got another engine more or less ready to go
in...

Someone LENT you an engine to fit in Bitsa .....AND expected to

Not all folks are as distrusting as you lot on here... and in
all fairness, unless something very sad happens in the next week
or so he will get it back in one piece.
If anything did go wrong with it, I'd have built him up and
engine from an A1 75,000 mile short engine I've got sat in the
workshop - which would probably be better than the 140,000 mile
one I borrowed.
As it is, I'll probably fit the unknown mileage complete engine
that I've got at the unit and hope it's OK, and keep the short
block as a spare for the day when I may need it...

Spent the day making a start on Ruud's 200tdi. Wheeled it
outside and spent best part of an hour alternating between Gunk
and pressure washing. It is now lovely and clean! ;D Rolled it
back in the garage and started the strip down and clocked the
300turbo for fitting. Then went up the scaffolding and refixed
the phone lines ready for striking scaffold. Timber hasn't
turned up yet to start in the other end. >:(

I've spent most of the day cleaning up after ten 8 week old
pups. Helping next door get their drain/sewer pipe unblocked
because her daughter insists on using twice as much arse wipe as
everyone else. Took my bigger dogs out for a run after that, I
then tried to get on with doing a bit more to my Carport. I
couldn’t get on with that because too many neighbours walking by
insisted in trying to put me right on what I was doing. Then
before I knew it, it was dark, so packed up and went and got a
Chinese for me and the misses. Now I’m sitting on here with a
beer....
The landie is still sitting on the driveway with jobs that still
need doing.... :'(
