Been registered for a while and thought I would introduce
myself.
I always like ex mil 109 land rovers as my dad had one when I
was a kid and I loved it, my dad has always had landys and when
I was a baby my child seat was screwed to the floor of our
lightweight (no health and safety then) so when I got the chance
to buy 2 landys parked in the bushes in my uncles neighbour I
took it.
To cut a long story short there was a 109 ex raf and a 1966 2a
88 I scrapped the 88 (big mistake) and kept the 109.
to be fair they were both rotten but the 109 could still support
its own weight unlike the 88 which literally collapsed.
any way the 109 got stripped in a day the chassis and bulkhead
scrapped and eventually got all the parts sold.
Back in 2012 Pa Blanchards where selling direct release 109s on
ebay, 99% of them were nails and had no tilts etc and we're
rotten apart from one which looked rough but the chassis was
immaculate.
They were selling mostly for 400-500 but I paid 960 for this one
and got it shipped back home. It's a 1985 109 ffr.
It looked rough and it had stood for 20 years with no roof on
soo all the switches etc were seized but luckily I had these
from the rotten 109.
The chassis and bulkhead were like brand new and the to this day
I have never felt brakes like this on a series they are
phenomenal.
New paint and a tilt later and it was ready and I have been
using nearly every day for 3 years with no incidents what so
ever.
When I got it had 12000 miles in it which seemed about right as
it's the tightest land rover I have ever driven, its also the
tallest land rover I've ever seen, I've had 3 other military
land rovers pass through my hands since and it towers over them
even though they have all had 1 ton chassis as well.
The distance between the top and bottom mounts are a inch half
longer than the normal 2 inches on the others.
