Is this an aftermarket pump and home made effort or is this a 6
       cylinder?
Obviously you will need to check and see if the pump is pumping
anything by removing the fuel pipe and checking if any fuel is
flowing. If fuel does flow from the pump then you have a
       blockage further up the line.
Double check the pump is operating. Remove the suction pipe of
the pump and use your finger to check for suction.
If the pump is running and creating suction you have either a
blocked pick up pipe or a massive air leak in the pick up pipe
or your pump is mounted too high and when dry the pump cant lift
the fuel. 4 cylinder mechanical pumps are pretty good at
suction. Much better than electric pumps anyway.
Remember fuel pumps, pump well but do not suck very well at all.
You need to locate the pump low and near to the tank. This way
as soon as you get fuel flowing syphon action will help keep the
       pump full.
There is not much to check so you should just be methodical and
       work through it.

Hello Previous owner had put pump on and located it next to
brake master cylinder I have now put it next to fuel tank Fuel
was coming out of pick up line when disconnected Will check
everything again It previously had about five foot to run before
getting to pump no only about a foot

Have a check of the pick up pipe gauze inside the fuel tank.

Hello All two things to report Pump is making a noise but there
does not feel like any suction there Tested with finger and
piece of tissue Also fuel pick up pipe in the tank has no gauze
on it Although this is not blocked Took it out and blew through
it So new fuel pump already on its way ordered yesterday Was
thinking of attaching it to the outrigger in front of the fuel
tank So fuel tank on one side of the outrigger fuel pump on the
other side Anybody any other ideas ideas? Also will make up a
fuel gauze for the end of the fuel pipe Was going to use
aluminium mesh and attach with pipe clip Anybody any other ideas
       ? Thanks

I havent seen what vehicle this is on but if it is a 4 cylinder
I would have fitted a new mechanical pump and put it back to
standard for years of trouble free motoring.
The fuel pump mounted on the front of the fuel tank outrigger is
where I used to mount pumps and filters when doing v8
conversions as it is about as good a place as any. It is
however, vulerable to branches and undergrowth attacking it when
driving through "brush". make sure the pipes are well secured
       and nothing hangs low.

Hello It's an ordinary 2.25 petrol I was tempted to convert back
When I got Misty she was already converted to electric pump Also
runs on lpg So not sure how that would be affected Also I was
going to construct some kind of make shift shroud to protect it
       Thanks

I've had a few 'run ins' with electric fuel pumps as for one
reason or another we went the electric route for my left hooker
ambulance that lives in the US. Being twin tanks the pump needs
mounting in the engine bay and I tried both types of Facet, the
cube type and cylinder type. Both didn't work well, as has been
said above they need mounting low down by the tank. Finally I
had success with one of these:

It's a German built HUCO pump marketed by Weber and designed to
be engine bay mounted. We fabricated a bracket between the
centre and rear rocker cover mounting studs and it sits there,
where the coil would live on a 24V FFR. It works perfectly. If
you're running LPG there is a certain sense to having an
electric pump as you'd wire it to cut off when on gas. Also if
you switch off on LPG and start on petrol you can let it fill
the carb before cranking the hell out of the thing. Nowt wrong
with a decent mechanical pump either, but finding one isn't
easy. The pattern stuff is shite. I've had grief with Allmakes,
Shitpart etc. Best off finding an old AC and rebuilding it.

Hello All New pump arrived and fitted I fitted it to the
outrigger in front of the fuel tank I ran fuel line from tank
through a filter into pump then up to the carb I put the pump in
a tin box and put a shroud in front to help protect it Put the
key watched the filter fill and gave it a few seconds more then
you turned the key and she fired into life First picture tin box
       Second is the shroud
