Brake issue (i think)

Series is a bit down on power and runs a bit hot (between N and
the red) on motorway stretches.
Retarded the fuel pump slightly which gave me more power around
town but still speed was maxing out around 50 on the flat ( ive
had it to 70 before last year), engine is 2.5 n/a
Also
After the run the drums were very hot to the touch and havent
been doing heavy braking and the pedal started out with quite a
bit of travel but afterwards only had about 5mm of travel
So im guessing the issue is with the brakes binding but what
causes the pedal to change? As its like somethings pushing the
brakes on slightly or is it just a case of adjusting the shoes?
Reason i think brakes causing the issue is if theyre binding
engine is under more load = running hotter

Have you changed the brake master cylinder ever/recently? I had
a similar problem with the 109 hardtop when I swapped to a
Lockheed m/c from the CB type. Turned out the pushrod was a bit
too long so when the pedal returned it wasn't letting all the
pressure out. I had to hacksaw a bit off the end of the pushrod.
That won't apply to a servo setup however. Also, when you say
you only have 5mm of travel is the brake pedal staying down? If
so, try lifting it back up with your foot from underneath. The
pedal bush often starts to seize up if not lubricated. It's
conceivable the brake master cylinder may be seizing up
internally too. I assume all 4 drums are hot and not just 1?

If the brakes start out fine and after some driving end up
binding and you notice the brake pedal is higher than before you
have a brake pedal/master cylinder lack of free play issue.
If the adjuster/locknuts have become loose on your master
cylinder you will find the brakes apply themselves and your
brake pedal will feel higher causing binding and of course a
lack of power.
The simple fix is to make sure the master cylinder adjusting
nuts are tightend to allow a little free play between the master
cylinder pushrod and the cylinder itself. Most often this free
play is adjusted inside the pedal box.
The only other issue could be your brake pedal return spring has
broken and the brake pedal is resting on the master cyinder
effectively removing all free play.

I have a servo set up which does have an adjustable pushrod. I
adjusted it before when my pedal was too low so is possible i
have overadjusted it

Get the book out and follow the set up procedure.
