Diesel battery dimensions please
By: ferretjuggler Date: June 23, 2015, 8:54 am

Can someone please give me the dimensions of a standard series
three diesel battery.
I get paid Friday, and I'm desperate to fit a new battery
before the old one quits altogether.
Not as simple as just asking for one at the local parts factors
- because
A. I'll be buying a tractor battery from an agricultural stores
- they're good yet cheap, and I am extremely tight with my
money :smilewide:
B. My battery tray is an ex-petrol one which has been cut and
extended by a PO, so no real point measuring it SH><.
Hopefully I'll be acquiring a nice tidy S3 battery tray in the
next few months, along with the clamp frame too.
So I want to make sure that I buy the right size battery now.
Does that make any sense whatsoever ???
There is method to my madness, honestly

A standard 072 battery fits (it's what I used to have in there;
now it sits in a wrong sprung 2.5 n/a), and I think they're all
pretty similar size wise.

Any idea of the length of that ?
Width and height I can just about work out from the hacked about
battery tray.
I'm measuring my nearly dead one at 13.5 inches, I've got an
idea that it's actually the right one (no label left on it)
Experience of previous PO bodges has made me wary of assuming
that anything is correct on this vehicle.
Worst bodge to date was a length of chain welded between the
chassis and the exhaust

11 inches or thereabouts I think. 13.5 is too long for a
standard Series battery tray (I tried a couple of months ago).

Ahhh!
I'm glad that I asked now.
Otherwise I'd be buying a battery that was too long.

I have a surplus battery tray plastic insert with drain pipe for
a diesel, I think. It is too long for my S3 petrol tray, but
came with some various odds and ends in the rear when I
purchased the vehicle. Lancaster area if you want it.
