       2.6 Engine rebuild
By: lesmcm Date: June 1, 2015, 4:09 am

I am about to rebuild my 2.6 engine, any advice from any one who
has been this way will be apreciated also best places to buy
parts. Not many suppliers in SA stock anything for this engine.

Depending on available parts I would make the following
       suggestions.
Get the compression ratio as high as possible so long as you
dont want to try and run it on parrafin!
Make sure you get hardened valve seats fitted and cut as
accuratly as possible. And get it all pocket ported.
Port match both inlet and exhaust manifolds.
Craddocks would be my first stop when looking for genuine parts.
Turner engineering might be able to help or if not they might
point you in the right direction for spares. Turners might even
offer a recon service for a 2.6??? Ring them to find out.

Cox & Turner not Turner Engineering seem to be the company of
choice for parts and reconditioning of the old IOE Land Rover
engines. Turner Engineering have never done them. Contact info
       is here:
  HTML http://www.coxandturner.co.uk
  HTML http://www.coxandturner.co.uk
. There is some info on the s2c
website that quotes £6500+VAT (Jan 15) for a fully reconditioned
2.6 engine from C&T so you'd need very deep pockets. They supply
       parts too.
In addition to Craddocks you may want to try Dunsfold Land
       Rover,
  HTML http://www.dunsfold.com/stockroom.php
  HTML http://www.dunsfold.com/stockroom.php,
       they have stock of many
       older hard to find parts.

Brave man there, rebuilding a 6 !
...these will surely be seriously rare engines soon, as most
have just been binned by now.

I will have a search, somewhere in the depths of the workshop
there may be a set of new valve springs. Memory fails at the
moment as I may have passed them to the new owner when I sold
the six pot. I sold it around 1980..... Lovely engine but gosh,
       did it like a drink.

Thanks for all the info, unfortunatly a new engine is out of the
question with an exchange rate of 18 to 1(thanks ANC and Jackob)
will be in contact with Craddocks and the other possible parts
       supliers suggested.

You could also try Dunsfold, and Blanchards to a lesser degree
(they're mainly military but have various genuine LR NOS).
       Possibly even Rimmer Bros?

Good luck, and please keep us updated with your progress!

Thanks for all the useful info, unfortunately the cost of
getting a S/H engine here would be prohibitive also the customs
and import duty would make it impracticable. I will have to
start shipping parts in and get my hands dirty. If this is of
interest the vehicle has been from Cape Town to Germany and back
early in its life also since 2004 the previous owners drove it
to Dar Es Salam not journey I would like to do but shows how
good these vehicles are with a little TLC. They promised me
some pictures but I have never received them.
