Your last comment is conflicting information, could do with some
full stops to help make it easier to read.

Apologies When I run the land on lpg it runs ok. And when comes
to slowing down and stopping it changes down ok and the engine
does not cut out. When I run it on petrol when it comes to
stopping. It changes down ok with the gears but the engine cuts
out. As though I have stalled it which I haven't . Any ideas
anyone?

have you adjusted the timing to suit the lpg more than petrol,
there is a slight difference between the two and you need to
find a happyish medium the timing wants to be at between 3 - 6
BTDC for unleaded and LPG unless you go for electronic points
that can be set individually for petrol and gas.

It has a weber 34ich carb on Not sure what it's set too on
timing I'm not that mechanical brave yet and don't have a timing
light I will get my mechanic to check It also has electronic
points

I've had numerous series over the years with this carb on and
never got satisfactory running. Even when I stupidly bought a
brand new Weber 34ICH before I knew better. These 34ICHs ice
like mad until the engine warms up, does it do it worst when
first started? It's been covered on here quite a bit but in a
nutsheel the 34ICH isn't well suited to the Land Rover
application. The 2.25 petrol is massively tolerant when it comes
to timing, it has to be miles out to cause it to stall as you
describe.
I keep an eye out for old Zenith 36IV carbs, the genuine ones
not pattern. A rebuild kit is inexpensive and as it happens I
did one for the station wagon only a couple of weeks ago and it
runs really well now. The Zeniths are known to warp, I get some
wet and dry and a sheet of glass and reface the body and top
just to be sure. Genuine overhaul kits are worth the extra, the
pattern ones are shite.

from my observation i think the main issue with 34ICH is that it
doesn't have fast idle quadrant on the choke, it literally just
shuts the flap (weber dmtl on the 2.25 coil sprung does) also
when you give it some throttle it overrides the choke flap, the
choke flap swings open with the throttle !
so you basically only have choke if you leave it idling, which
is why it runs like crap (re: NoelC icing) when you drive off,
because the throttle is overriding it

My experience of the 34ICH is that it was a bolt on replacement
for many motors including the Escort mk2 - my everyday motor.
It's as basic as a Weber can be although it does have the power
valve. Mine is perfect with no icing so I think something isn't
connected right somehow. I don't find throttle over rides the
choke flap.

It does vary motor to motor, some do it some don't. It's not
that anything is connected incorrectly, the 34ICH is well known
for exhibiting these characteristics and is poor in the series
application. From the car point of view it works OK, I don't
want to recall the horror of my teenage years when i has the
misfortune of a mk3 Escort as a daily driver more than necessary
but that took air from above the exhaust manifold and routed it
into the air cleaner with a cold engine, the heated air prevents
the icing.
Going back a few years the 34ICH became popular because it was
about the only off the shelf carb readily available that fitted,
and was cheap. You quite correctly say it's a bolt on for many
motors hence jack of all trades master of none. The 32/34DMTL as
used on boingy 2.25/2.5s is a fine carb, probably the best of
the lot, but then look at the thing compared to a 34ICH. It's a
shame it's not a direct fit without some faffing.
