Did you replace the collar on the stub axle while you were about
it? It doesn't take much wear on there to bugger up the new
seals.

blocked breather could definately do it. my axle took a big
gasp of air when i cracked the breather off.
also agree about the stub axle, i replaced the seal on mine and
less than a month later the new one was pissing oil.
then i took a better look at the stub axle...

If you have an all in one stub axle you should consider

A new stub axle is the other alternative.
As far as leather or modern "rubber" oil seals. Well I am sure
someone, somewhere on the planet found a leather seal that
worked by sealing/rubbing on a part of the shaft that was
undamaged. But as far as sealing oil goes, then a modern
"rubber" lipped seal works very much better than an old leather
type. Just ask... Well any car manufacturer!
With ANY oil leak first check the breathers are free. This can
often cure an oil leak without any further work needed!
Then check the seal for wear and correct placement. Then check
the sealing surface for damage. Grooves can be got around by
placing a new seal in a slightly different position. but pitting
and scoring will need parts replaced or a wear sleeve fitting.

Only the later series 3 stub axles used the "all in one" style
similar to early 90/110. So if you have a series 2/2a with an
all in one stub axle it has been retrofitted. By the way, a new
all in one stub axle for a series is very expencive indeed!
