Manifold studs
By: pintofale Date: May 5, 2015, 6:58 am

Just bought some manifold to exhaust studs from Paddock but they
don't fit my old manifold (S2 1959 2286 petrol).
Did they change size at some point? Anybody know what the new
size is? I think I will have to tap out the manifold.
Ta.

The thread is the same at both ends - maybe that's the problem!
I bought part 568664,

Very good.
They're at Merrylees, nr. Desford, Anthony and Mike.
I've been going there for Donkeys years, they really know their
stuff, and stock loads of Series parts and will offer advice
too.
Reasonably priced too, worth a call?

The part no. you bought was correct as shown in my '74 2a parts
catalogue. I can't see a reference to any thread for any series
2a stud (including six pot) being anything other than 5/16" UNF.
It's not a really early side exit manifold is it?

Kev - thanks, will ring them in the morning. Need thermostat
housing bolts now!
Noel - No it's a bog standard manifold, just an old one (1959),
two of the old studs extracted ok but the hole is way too small
for the new stud and the old stud (even allowing for a lot of
corrosion) is thinner than the new 5/16 UNF stud. Anyhow I have
just ordered a decent 6.5mm drill and 5/16 tap so should be able
to get it sorted.
