advice please - brakes, adjusters, doors, starter solenoid, bump

Got a few questions i'd be grateful for advice on.
a] brake adjusters - got a set of new ones and wondered how they
came off. the nuts on the o/s ones seem to be different size
nuts. To remove i presume one uses a mole grips round the cam
and undoes the bolt at the back.

o/s rear seems to have a nut inside of the cam... not correct
       part i'd think.

b] front seals behind backplate. I seem to have a weep of oil
and was wondering if this was common on the front axle. Looks
worse in the pic somehow. Some of the oil is where I used
PlusGas to loosen the wheel nuts and drums.

d] doors n/s glass. What's the best way of taking off the door
tops... and not breaking the glass. i was going to just get a
new door and top for n/s but lower door is good o/s so I was
going to try and save the glass on that side.

       e] bumper
Someone gave me this but I think one can only use this kind
offroad (bull bar type) due to regulations. I was thinking of
cutting off the bit above the two parallel bars as the round
bumper looks good on landys I've seen.

f] starter solenoid connection. I got one of the Canadian
pre-engaged starters. I presume i am right on the connection.
Easiest connection is to use the rear terminal as a connector -
thus front one is just redundant. (allows for easy reverting
back to inertia if the pre-engaged type are no longer available
       in the future sometime).

Brake adjusters are usually an angle grinder job to remove. But
with the age of series stuff and many owners anything could be
bodged on there now. Do not use Britpart snail cams they are
grief, Bearmach seem OK. Be aware that there are differing sizes
of adjuster/snail cam, make sure you fit the right one.
As for the axle seals they are cheap so whilst you have it
stripped replace them all and refill with new EP90 oil.
Replace the brake shoes with quality parts, (I favour Mintex,
others have had problems with them) Ensure that the return
springs are fitted correctly, so many series have them fitted
wrong and then the next owner does the same as that was how it
       was before stripping.
A standard bumper second hand or new is not a lot of money, to
my eyes the tubular one looks naff.....

Probably going to repeat most of what divie has said now.
Snail cams need to be cut off as they're pressed in at the
factory, replacements kits bolt together. Britpart cams are made
       of cheese, don't used them!
Weeping seals are common but as you're in the process of
stripping the brakes it's not much more time to change them.
Again, beware of Britpart and cheap pattern shite. OEM brands
like Corteco are only a little more money.
The door tops unbolt from underneath but the posts may have
rusted solid into the door bottom. Depending on how much you
intend to use the Landy if you're going as far as you are maybe
replacing door tops and bottoms both sides would be worth it.
Unless ultimate originality is your thing it would be a good
time to go for anti-burst door locks and one piece door seals as
per the stage one V8 and military vehicles.
       That bumper is horrible!!! :bleurgh
That's exactly how I've hooked up my Rocky Mountain starter
motor. Be warned, I've seen a 109 hicap burst into flames (see
Classic Land Rover mag this month, they've got it now) when the
cable to the starter motor chafed through and earthed out. As
that cable is live all the time it needs securing to prevent any
       chance of that happening.

Thanks for the advice. Got new doors now and putting them on
tomorrow. Found the brake backplate had rusted through one side
and the other was bent. Fortunately a local landy guy had a
decent pair - like hen's teeth to get hold of it seems... no new
       available.
Bumper - haven't decided on but chopped the top off so two
parallel bars aren't so bad. One on there is bent so i want to
       get shot of that.

When I hooked up my pre-engaged starter (Powerlite one) I just
left the cabling as is, and it hasn't given any trouble - in
fact if I hooked it up as shown above then it wouldn't be happy
as it comes ready with the exciter terminal on the solenoid
hooked up to the main live feed. Is the RM one different then in
as much as you need to extend the feed from the ignition switch
       down to the motor solenoid?

I didn't know there was another type of pre-engaged starter. Who
sells the Powerlite as a matter of interest. I only heard about
the RM one as a friend had one fitted. RM told me that he'd only
just had a few back in stock after having none for a while. To
answer your question - the W/R cable has got to go direct to the
small connection on the solenoid... must be the same on the
Powerlite as it won't work otherwise.

Got the Powerlite from autoelectricsupplies.co.uk (Powerlite
RAC424). Not cheap, but I've not been totally impressed by the
aftermarket standard starters that I and two other family
members have had of late. In fact the last one I replaced had a
yoke that was marginally larger than the original Lucas offering
       - no big deal you think, except it meant that I could no longer
get a socket in there to tighten up the nuts. Ever sat under
the wheelarch in the mud, with one had going up the side of the
chassis rail and the other going through the gap between the
bulkhead support bracket and the footwell juggling a spanner in
order to turn that fucking lower nut more than 2 flats at a
time? None of that nonsense with these newfangled little
       pre-engaged jobbies.
The Powerlite ones are also made in the UK if that sort of thing
       is important to you.
If I get the chance I'll attempt to get the phone in there and
take a photo, but there's a link from the main terminal to the
starter solenoid (hence it can be a direct replacement as the
main 12V lead is still switched by the original vehicle
solenoid). I suppose you could wire it up the other way if you
wish, and if I ever have to replace bits of the original cabling
       then I probably will.

The only reason I went for the RM other than cost was the look
of it to be honest. It seems to work OK but I think the one I
sourced stateside for the ambulance has more guts. Some mob
called British Starters or something like that, about 180USD.

Thanks - I hadn't heard of these. Useful to know as the RM ones
are only occasionally stocked. I think it's clever that they've
produced the design that works on the other side of the ring
       gear.
