       Mamod steam toys?

this is an very early 1950s vintage Mamod SE1, i remember it at
my grandparents when i was a kid (or rather badgering my uncle
for hours to have a go) i rescued it from the shed when the
house was sold a couple years back. first time i tried it the
over pressure valve leaked like a sieve so it wouldn't build up
steam unless i held it shut, the piston was a bit slack, like
throwing a can of coke in dustbin, i was using a random bottle
of "lamp oil" i found under the sink and the flames were licking
up the side of the boiler, ooops ! so i bought a new valve from
mamodspares, some new wick rope, a bottle of meths...

video of it running if you are that way inclined!

       These are great aren't they?!
I have several in the lift. I'm advised they can stay there...

You can get entire model workshops to run off those.
My uncle had a showman's tractor that, every now and then, we'd
get steaming around the kitchen when my auntie was out. Good
       memories.

correction, IS a bit slack. just watched a youtube vid of some
guy rabbiting on for 5 whole minutes with his SE1 flat out on
       the work top.
i actually had no idea of what was "normal" ;D

Brilliant stuff, I had a few Mamod bits as a kid meself
.... I bet today's sickly brats wouldn't be allowed to
have 'dangerous ' toys with boiling water and real fire
       involved...
