Hi, new here, I have a 2a 109 with an Aeroparts hydraulic winch
running from a bottom pto. The landy is 1971 and I have known it
for 30yrs, could the winch be original equipment?
Also I am trying to find out the rated line pull but cant find
much on the net, can anyone advise please?

bottom pto :2mo5pow: wagfinger next time don't type it out
here :( .. where is the crying face..
i guess if you google it or go to more formal series groups and
forums you will find details.
well i have a mayflower drum winch and folks over here said i
can pull churches with it (ours are big and bulk and stone built
) so i guess yours has also got a good pull :)

Bottom PTO.
Whisper it!!!!
Hen's teeth and Rocking Horse Shit are common by comparison.
Be very careful, you could cause mass panic or a stampede.

Welcome along BTW.

didnt know they were rare, just took it for granted!
The landy, Mrs bridges, has an Acklift cherrypicker mounted on
the rear running from pto.
The winch is currently mounted on the front with bloody enormous
spade anchors.
i havnt used it for 6 years as there are insurance problems.
used to be insured with nfu as crane, this doesnt exist and its
now 'special vehicle' eg red deisel and mot exempt but....
you can no longer get road insurance unless the picker has
current Lolor' cert. it wont pass as to old and also costs too
much.
wanted to restore it and show it, she will soon be 50, but no
one will give me insurance cover. silly as without the picker it
would be £50/yr.
reluctantly going to remove it, she will be happy (weighs
700kg), so have a mad plan to fit winch behinh the cab, rollers
at rear, hydraulic drop down spades at the rear and a Matador
style timber lifting jib.
the chassis has 4" angle welded along to top and 3" c section on
top of that so it will take the strain.

so the cherry picker was operated from the bottom pto as well or
from another hydraulic pto pump?
this is how my father's should look like - with mk1 winch at
front. and compressor at the back.

the bottom pto has a dowty pump on it and the base of the
cherrypicker is the tank. Theres a valve on the tank that sends
oil flow to picker or winch. there is a second valve on the
winch circuit that redirects the floe to quick fit couplings for
running hydraulic tools (road breaker).
When i remove the picker i plan to replace the tank with one i
will make from a compressor air tank and use a military oil
cooler to keep the hydraulic oil cool.

hi. behind the grill of the picture i attached is the cooler of
the oil of the air compressor.
so what is in the rear housing of the transfer case?
there is a brochure on ebay at the moment about the hydraulic
breakers you talk of.
pity you have to loose the cherry picker. :(

Chances are if its 71 it won't be an Aeroparts, it will be a mk2
hydraulic winch built by Hill Lushington. Only the mk1s were
built by Aeroparts and were replaced by the mk2 c.1967.
BPTOs are uncommon but they do turn up, just can get expensive.
I've had 5 come through the business in the last 2 years
including one for the '1 ton' / FC transfer box which according
to a few people don't exist. I also have a large quantity of NOS
spare for the BPTOs direct from the old Aeroparts factory and
currently in the process of having some castings remanufactured.
It sounds like an interesting vehicle that probably could do
with preserving rather than breaking. Could you pm me some pics
please? The pic of the Air Drive compressor vehicle above is the
one I owned for a short while but unfortunately was incomplete
and not worth saving and I decided to sell it. I'm currently
rebuilding an Air Drive Harrier back hoe digger based on a 1971
2a 109. That also has twin hydraulic pumps, one on the centre
PTO and one on the BPTO powering the digger arm and a hydraulic
breaker mounted on the from bumper. My Series 3 88 just has a
BPTO powering a hyd winch.

As a footnote Aeroparts did manufacture another hydraulic winch
from 1977, known as the GLR104. The ratings for these winches
are 4000lb on the 1st lay reducing to 2650lb on the top lay of
rope for the mk1 mk2 winches and a max 5500lb for the GLR104
winch

maudi
thanks for your reply, just looked up your ebay shop, need to
keep you in favorite sellers list!
I have spoken to the second owner (knew the owners back to 77)
and he confirmed fitting of winch. It is Aeroparts, fitted in
1980ish, and he is sending me the original bumf. This was when
the bpto was fitted as it had an overdrive on the rear pto
outlet. There is a hole cut in the top of the drivers side wing
where it had a optional equipment hydraulic tank fitted.
I would dearly love to keep it in one piece but if I cannot
insure it for road use......
Also discovered that the cherrypicker wasnt on it from new but
was fitted in early 80s having been removed from a crashed 109,
ex london underground tree team. The eon assisters were fitted
together with extended spring shackles at this time but due to
the weight it sits hard on these at all times.
