       Chassis number location

I have an early 88"series 1 but as yet don't know the chassis
number, I've a suspicion that it may have been produced in late
1956, the previous owner has replaced/welded the dumb irons, and
looking there for the number was fruitless, where else would you
       suggest? (I don't have a log book.)Thanks

On my 88" diesel S1, I found the number upside down on the
inside face of the drivers side dumbiron. However, engine mounts
are another place, and also the rear chassis rails, either side,
on the inside or outside face.

If it's earlier then on the rear left (from drivers seat )
spring shackle mount -86"a were here.
If the rear chassis has been done then it's often gone. If not
upside down inside the front right dumb iron as Albert says but
this is often plated over with repairs like yours!
No chassis plate on the bulkhead?

Thanks for your help, I will look in all these places, I do have
a numberplate but no documents at present, The guy I got it from
is trying to get a new document for me, he has had it on his
drive, for so many years, pre sorn etc, but it was/is registered
to him. Hence the need to find a chassis number.
