ENV is a tougher diff, but parts can be a struggle to get,
Salisbury is also a strong axle, parts are easier to get.
I think the ENV diff was fitted to some LWB and forward controls
as an option?
Pictures would help, I'm just guessing that it could be an ENV!

Would be interesting to see a picture of the rear Diff, remember
if you fit the Salisbury you might need a new rear prop of the
correct length, the Salisbury is longer than a rover diff but
not sure how it measures up compared to an ENV. Any the 6 pot
props can be awkward to find.
The main reason people swap to the S3 hinge is so they can mount
a mirror on there, I would say as this is right on the swap over
point it may well have got the S3 hinges just because the S2
ones had run out.
Looks great is the Chassis and bulkhead really as solid as it
looks in the photos.

Here are some pics of the diff and the 6cyl style bulkhead. Diff
has a finer spline?

The prop length doesn't worry me as I will have to remedy that
anyway as when it was converted to the jap diesel the gearBox
crossmember was moved about 4" forward, I intend to put box back
to original position and will have to adjust driveshaft length
to suit.
I did a bit or work on the bulkhead when I got it and it is now
very sound no rust at all and the chassis is great apart from
the front of the rails where the bumper bolts on is a little
thin so will replace those bits.
Is the consensus here that the env diff would be better than a
Saulsbury? Both diffs are mint, run nice and quiet etc.

Looks like an ENV axle with 24 spline half shafts. I have the
same on my tacr1. Worth keeping as they're strong.

From memory I don't think you can pull the half shafts out you'd
have to unbolt the wheel carrier housing maybe?
Thanks for the advice I might keep the diff in there rather than
the saulsbury, will still keep it as a spare though..

I don't think you will break the ENV or the Salisbury, the
deciding factor might be which is easiest to get spares for?

The ENV is a great axle and if it were me I'd be keeping it as
they're much more unusual. As I understand it ENV ceased trading
hence Land Rover went down the Salisbury route, it wasn't down
to the Salisbury being better.
Door hinges aren't an exact science. The very first series 3s
often got earlier 2a hinges, usually for corporate customers who
didn't notice but my mate had s3 88" no. 55 and that also had 2a
hinges. If yours was a CKD kit assembled in '73 it's conceivable
they fitted what was to hand.
As for the reflectors they look to be the standard UK military
rubber mounted Lucas type. The tail lamps are Wipac "pork pies"
by the look of it, spot on. They incorporate a reflector so
originally no extra reflectors would have been fitted, unless
local market rules said otherwise.

So can does anyone have a manual/assembly specs for an Env diff?
The front seal does leak a little so would need to be fixed.

Sorry I Don't have anything on ENV diffs, But If you change the
seal you will also need to check the condition of the seal land
where the seal runs on the output flange, they need to be
perfect but are often scored which stops the new seal working.
You have a few options 1. if it is not bad clean it up with wet
and dry, 2. fit a new output flange (If available), 3. get the
flange speedi sleeved, 4. I found swapping from old leather
seals to new rubber ones means the seal runs on an undamaged
part of the flange.

Being an engineer I am quite familiar with speedi sleeves etc
and as you say the new seal some times sits on a different part
of shaft, if you're lucky!! Will have a look when I get I.
There!!
Thanks to everyone on here for all your help!! Has been great!
