Series 3 ignition barrel

Anybody know if a defender ignition barrel will work on my 2.25
petrol as I don't fancy paying over £100 for a genuine series 3
one when my choke cable is mounted separately anyway

I fitted a britpart defender steering lock complete to my S3.
(QRF100880). No problems with electrical connections, they were
identical. There was no provision for the choke cable, but I
just clamped the cable housing to the steering lock with a
couple of large jubilee clips. It took a small bit of adjusting
and packing to get the angle right, and to get the bosses on the
clips in a place where they didn't catch on the plastic housing
when it was fitted. It all looks as it should when reassembled.
If your choke cable is already re-routed you should have no
problems. I was having problems with some spade terminals
snapping off and not being able to get a strong repair with a
soldered connection. Key barrel was sticking also, so
replacement solved all problems, and I now have 2 keys!

That's just what I wanted to hear, I've been looking at defender
ignition barrels trying to see what part number is best and
thought it would of be QRF100880 and now you've confirmed that,
thank you

Paddocks do 2 versions with same part number, one at £30 approx.
and one at £70, I got cheaper one, because I wasn`t sure it
would work.
It won`t bother you, but if anyone else is doing same thing, you
have to be very careful not to crush the outer choke cable.
There is a solid bit you can clamp, but it is short and I made a
protector from some U-shaped metal to avoid squashing the outer
and making the choke too stiff.

hi there ;)
my barrel is also not fully functioning. it switches on the
dials, gets power to heater plugs but no power goes to the
starter solenoid so i installed a separate push button for
starting - operates when the key is set on the on position.
