Maybe indeed. I went out late last night just to have a look.
The lamps seem bright enough. I'm wondering if something of the
'intermittent' type is happening, as when I was on the Woodhead
Pass it really was pitiful. There was just a small patch of
yellow about ten feet in front of the Land Rover. The headlamps
could do with adjustment but they were good enough for the MOT.
I wouldn't have thought they were that far out.
There are rules regarding placement etc. I'll fit the lamps
       within these rules

Using the new halogen headlamps on their own should be enough,
maybe that is why people are not recommending extra lights on
       top.
       [/quote]
^^^ Exactly - extra lights are fine if you are off-roading at
night, but no reason why the halogens shouldn't be fine for
normal road use, in my opinion :rolleye0012:
By the way, I think the MOT standard is just to make sure you
aren't dazzling oncoming traffic, so if yours are adjusted low
they would still pass - as far as I know :-?
       Cheers,
       Robin.

Do either of you two have lights in centre or lights in wings?
I do off-road during the night actually. Whenever possible.
Well. Green lanes usually, not strictly off-roading all the
       time.

Mine are in the grill, Patrick's Carawagon has them in the
wings. Both are cheapo Paddock halogens with standard bulbs
       fitted, but both with relays.
I've driven them both at night on unlit country roads, at speed,
and not felt the need for extra lighting.
However, green laning at night I can understand the need for
extra lighting, probably with more spread than you might get
       with ordinary headlights.

What size wire did you use?
May be worth checking the earths and battery terminals.
Advice from a book on setting up rally cars.
I would say if you are going to fit anything I would fit 2 of
the lamps you have as fog/driving lights under the bumper
towards the outside, where they are hidden, they will be quite
vulnerable to damage though, point them outwards so they light
up the verge / edges of the road, in really poor visibility or
offroad this is much more useful than outright forwards
       (dazzling) power.
This is how rally cars have the 'driving' lights set
With the lights in the grill I wonder if this causes verges to
be shadowed by the protruding wings? and if the lights in wings
owners see better results more down to the position of the
       lights?
And if you put them on the roof all you do is light up the
rain/snow/fog in front of your eyes.
Also if you haven't already you can fit bigger bulbs in the side
lights on the front wings, strictly they should be 5W but

Anything above the 5w bulb in a side lamp would probably see
modern lenses/bulb holders melt an d run down your wing LED side
       lamps may help a little?

I feel dirty enough already having fitted LED stop/tail lamps.
       :bleurgh rofl
Going to pop out after tea and look at adjustment first. I'm not
sure where the brightness escaped from whilst driving along
though, they seem adequately bright when I look at them from
       outside. :-?

       Try washing your windscreen... :smilewide:
Seriously though, I think the lease obtrusive and most protected
place for aux lighting is between the wings, either on brackets
bolted to the bumper or directly to the apron panel. That's
where mine are and they work well, as long as the front of the
light is just proud of the front of the wing else the beam
       pattern can get messed up.

       I fitted a £20 Brit Part set of headlight/light holders c/w
bulbs vast improvement over the old sealed beams...same current
       req so used existing wiring.
Around 5 years down the line all is well.
