Replacement blower motor ?

At the moment I've got two heaters on my 1970 88" diesel
The standard square Smiths jobby as fitted to the 2A as
standard, and a series three blower and matrix mounted on the
NS footwell
blowing through a hole in the upper footwell.
When I throw the switch for the S3 unit, it fires up with a
squeal, every time, making me suspect that the bearings in the
motor are fucked.
Anyone got a cheap and cheerful replacement option for the
blower motor ?
Yes there are probably NOS Smiths motors about, at a price, but
I'm thinking more of a far eastern option.
Anything out there that will fit ?

I just replaced the motor in my series heater with the following
part here in Canada (about 30 quid). Having seen its made by
Siemens I would think you could find this or an equivalent new
motor cheaply enough in the UK.
Part number: VDO/Siemens PM351

Just use sume 3 in one. The bearings just dry out my s111 did
the same thing now ok.

Cheers I've made a note of the Siemens part number.
Worth looking into.
Maybe worth trying some oil on the bushes, but I'm bearing in
mind that the blower motor is already 41 years old, how long
can you reasonably expect it to keep going for ???

My fan motor (S3)was not working at all. I got a smiths heater
for an old BMC mini for £10 at an autojumble. My first thought
was to codge the whole unit inside the footwell get some heat
into the cab, then I realised that the motor is very similar but
double ended, and the fans are the same size. I needed one of
the fans as mine had perished, I had to make sure I saved the
correct fan as one blows the wrong way! I cut off the spindle
for the unused fan and fitted the motor into the snail, fitted
great! Now got heat! Also got a spare heater radiator now.
I assumed it would be single speed as only 2 wires, but the
resistor in the snail made it 2 speed when wired up, another
bonus!

I've just noticed that Paddocks are selling a replacement S3
blower motor.
Not exactly peanuts at £55 + VAT
And probably sourced from the far east too.
But at least it's there if you get caught out with a dead blower
motor in the middle of a cold snap.

I used a 120mm computer type fan, i think it was a 1.6A one,
mounted directly on the heater matrix inside the box, and held
in place with foam. Works a treat :)
