Any kind souls out there?

Hi everyone,
The beastie is getting some use now! it's been a long hard
struggle but I got there in the end. Anyway, it could do with a
bit of a service really and I as I am an old knackered cunt I
don`t fancy it in this weather. Is there anyone within say a
half hours drive of Middleton, Manchester, who has a large
garage I could get a 109 into with a flat floor so I can get the
oils done easily and with a modicum of comfort?
I'm not being soft, I really have been extremely ill of late and
I genuinely cannot lay outside in a puddle on a rough concrete
drive while I shiver at -2 degrees, however I would still like
to get at least the oils sorted. I am careful but this is a
messy job so I wouldn't want to be doing it on a pristine floor
mind but if your workshop has seen some use then it'd be ok
I would be very grateful! Let me know if you can help. :)

Can't help as I can't even get my own into my garage, but some
independent garages will rent out a bay, often with a lift or a
pit, at an hourly/half day rate. I know our local independent
Land Rover garage does; I've often seen folk working on their
own vehicles there.
Might be worth asking around your local area - so much easier to
do servicing while stood up underneath, especially in this
weather :smilewide:

I'm fortunate to be able to use the columns after 5pm where I'm
working in the week, a bit more than 30 mins away from
Manchester so no help sadly. It might be worth asking some of
the local independents as Robin suggests, post-Christmas tends
to be dead quiet for us on commercials so maybe the smaller
stuff slows up too. Personally I wouldn't waste your time with a
large garage or chain, they'll be worried about liability - when
I was working for the PLC they didn't even want our employed
mechanics working on their mates cars for fear of that. Not that
I gave a fuck, I might have mentioned a decker parked in bay 1
blocked the view of the CCTV camera on all the other bays...

I can't help either as I lie in the road But there used to be a
place in Darwen that rented out bays Can't remember the name
though sorry It looked a proper set up

Well thanks for the suggestions, however there doesn't appear to
be much around here, it's difficult when you're new to an area
and don't know anyone. Did a bit of calling around and basically
nobody was interested in helping. 200 plus views on here and no
offers either so I am guessing you ALL work outside in puddles.
Normally I don't mind so much but as I said I have been
extremely unwell. Guess I will be for some time!
Never mind folks, carry on!

I have been known to use a hot water bottle in the back of my
overalls to give a source of heat / barrier from the floor /
cushion all in one
my next house WILL have a garage!

Why not wait until better weather?
How many more miles are you going to put on before say, April
time.
I try not to do general servicing on any of mine in the winter -
emergency repairs are one thing, but it's not pleasant trying to
do things with numb extremities :rolleye0012:

Hey Pete,
If I can't sort something local out I will let you know, thanks,
that is appreciated. Robin, normally I would wait but it's been
off the road since the early nineties, then when I got it it was
stripped and rebuilt outside but I couldn't get it done quickly
enough, it was a case of by the time I got one thing sorted
where I had started had begun to suffer the effects of the
elements. I finally got it finished last year, got an MOT and
immediately put it to work moving house. It's since had a
gearbox change (vast improvement) which I haven't had time to
change the oils on, and the engine needs new oil and a filter. I
don't want to ruin it, it deserves a good fettle.

Hiya. i live in Rochdale but sadly like you, only have a drive
to work on. I don't mind bringing my bad eyes, dodgy knees and a
funny back over and giving you a lift to do the oils. I've done
mine on the drive several times and have enough kit to make it
relatively bearable, weather permitting. Happy to help, but no
toastie garage. :(
