So just to clarify, can a standard 6 cylinder run on unleaded?
Thanks for an interesting discussion. We can still get lead
replacement fuel here in South Africa, but I’m not sure for how
       long.
       Cheers

Any petrol engine will run on unleaded, how long For the
question, as standard the 6 pot will last a while as long as you
don't run at high revs for long periods of time. What will
happen is the exhaust valve will pit and burn loosing
compression. Fit new hardened valves and the gas setup and enjoy
       the six pot goodness.

Land rover fitted hardend valve seats in the IOE engines because
the standard and quality of petrol varied across the world
,however the exhaurst valves have always been a problem which
Land Rover tried to sort by making replacment valves out of
harder material , so in theory any replacment valves ordered
should be of the later and harder spec and that would be the way
       i would go.

But it wont work with gas because you cant get it in with the
       gas.

Thanks for the Valvemaster tip. I have Googled it and will see
if it, or something similar, is available here.
       Cheers
