Crank Removal

My 101 has a Perkins 4236 and recently trashed a big end
bearing. Crank is a bit scored - could be possible to emery it
in situ but really needs regrinding. Unfortunately I think this
engine was fitted BEFORE the hard top roof was put on - welded!
So removing engine will not be easy - it certainly won't come
out the door and probably not from below. To hoist it out will
mean cutting the roof off!
So I'm thinking of removing the crank with the engine still in.
Move gearbox back a bit: remove clutch, flywheel etc: remove rad
and timing gear; unbolt bigends; unbolt mains and out it comes!
Obviously will need to be held on and lowered carefully. I'm
thinking ratchet straps round whole engine to support crank
while its unbolted and then lowering with a jack at each end.
Will stabilise engine somehow while its balancing just on the
mounts.
Seems straightforward although obviously a gigantic pain in the
arse. But am I right? Will it be do-able?
Any advice or comments welcome!! (No I'm not going to fit a TDi
or V8)

I think so,
You may not even have the remove the timing gears, as its a gear
driven engine, yo can probably drop the crank out without
Think you will need the flywheel housing off to do it ...
Not guaranteeing you can do it. But I think you could
