       Home built campers

Anyone on here into building Leafer Campers ???
While I'd love to own a six cylinder Dormobile, it probably
isn't going to happen for a good while yet.
       Home built jobby maybe.
Maybe just a second hand roof tent chucked onto my 88.
Anyway if anyone on here has a home built camper, I'd love to
see some photos and get some understanding of just what was
       involved in building it.
The more innovative and unusual conversions always bring a smile
       to my face.
Like the ones where a small caravan has been carefully grafted
       onto a 109.
Or the amazing wooden gypsy caravan built onto a 109 chassis
       cab.
If anyone is building anything, I'd like to hear about it.

Must admit I keep looking for pop up roofs on eBay but also
thinking of getting some poles to extend a roof rack so I can
hang a canvas off the rear of mine to make a cooking / changing
area then sleep in the rear of the 109.

I can't even seem to afford a 2nd hand roof tent, perhaps third
       hand....fourth hand ?

Yeah I seem to have a figure of about £400 in my head without
       researching them.
The trouble is that you've got all the EMLRA types after them,
       keeps the prices high.
I think there are some civvy versions available which do the
       same thing.
Thin nylon by the looks of it, probably just as expensive too,
       just not as durable.
There were some cheapo roof tents about.
       Probably of Chinese origin.
Probably no service or repair back up when you damage it either.
I think the secret of an inexpensive camper has got to be the
recycling of bits and pieces that society doesn't put much value
       on.
Maybe the fittings from a scrap caravan, and the reworking of a
       used awning ???
