Sometime mid 1980's we were on a family holiday down there in
Dad's 109. Mum driving, blazing row going on in the front seats,
goes the wrong way...
Dad: "watch out for the tracks"
Mum: "don't be stupid, it's probably just a tram"
I'm sure I don't need to tell you what happened round the next
corner! Suffice to say those things look f***ing big when you're
trying to squeeze past them in a Land Rover. Still, it stopped
the argument quickly.

Yeah, regular service for boat trains... hence the

looks like the council is now trying to remove the line. why?

I did the line a few times each way in the late 70's and early
80's on the boat train to connect onto the Sealink ferry to the
Channel Islands as we used to camp in Guernsey with the Scouts.
First time I went in 1977 our kit was collected by a National
Carriers lorry about a week before we got there and was sent to
Weymouth in a wagon in a freight train.
It finally got back to Oxford about 2 weeks after we did.

this was a regular service but hasn't run for years,
if you look at goooogle maps the line is now overgrown
dunno if this works
