       Tdi Breather(s?)

Look carefully at the above and you'll spot the second breather
pipe going from the rocker cover between 1 and 2 down to one of
the sideplates (the first being through the black cyclone can).

On this engine its not there, you can even see the cutting for
it on the rubber cover (robbed from a 300Tdi). This engine is a
12L suffix A which I suspect makes it a rather early 200Tdi, so
does anyone else only have the cyclone breather, does that make
my engine rare and more importantly does it make it shit? The
disco parts book seems to surgest they are fitted to all Tdis
       which is blatently not true.

Think mine has only one, never really thought about it. mines
also a disco one and i doubt it makes much difference although
with two breathers surely if the pipe to sump fails..or gets
ripped off by a branch like on thursday :P then it will help
empty the oil more quickly, i only lost about a litre in 10
miles. Really dont hink it matters. :)

I think youll find only 300's have the other rubber breather
pipe you have to watch these as they can get very very hard and
crack. Have replaced quite a few over the years at work.

I've definately seen photos of 200's with both of them and I
doubt they have been converted, especally if people don't think
they do anything. I guess there is always the posability they
don't really do anything and LR was having a bit of an
experement. Tis a 300tdi in the top photo though (converted
       from a diesel turbo).
I don't see how it could increase the vonrability from trees
though as since it goes to the sideplate (like the oil filler on
most 2.25 engines) you'd have to get the tree wedged well up the
side of the engine to hit it (nothing like the main breather
which does look rather delicate), infact if it reduices the
amount of oilly air being breathed via the cyclone route (I
suspect it must be there to help reduice the cyclone being
overwhelmed with oil) it may even help reduice oil loss if the
       cyclone drain hose has failed?

both of the 200s i've got fitted have that second breather from
the rocker cover, i might even go look at my disco now and check
to see if that has one as well

Upto 12L45742A engine number uses ERR1530
       12L45743A onwards uses ERR3368
Not sure if the difference is the extra breather though :)
