       Engine query.

       Afternoon all.
Now that I've finally got my series 3 project I've started
stripping it down. Looking at the engine no. it looks ,according
to a website that I found, to be a 2.25p out of a 90/110. Can
this be right? Also if it is, does that mean I have a 5 bearing
       block?
My series is a 1975 swb so I should have the 3 bearing I think
       but I don't mind.
       Thanks in advance

Very early 90s had a 2.25p that looks absolutely identical to a
2.5. Entirely possible that one has been put into your series 3.
My S3 is April 84 and my Dads 90 is Aug/Sept 84 and has its
original 2.25p. A right pain when you call somewhere
(Craddocks...) and they insist that they didn't start making the
"Defender" (no such thing as just a 90) until 1985 and it
definitely never had a 2.25p, "you must have a series 3"
Fucking pricks. Wouldn't refund the bits they sent out for the
wrong engine as they absolutely are right for the vehicle, the
       vehicle must be wrong.
Even though its right there infront of my fucking eyes and we
have known it since 1994 when my Dad was the second owner! Grrr

Oh and yes, that would be a 5MB.
engine code 11H by any chance?

Oh so sounds like I may have fun ordering parts :/. Is the
engine the same as the ones fitted in the late series?
       And yes it's 11h engine code :)

       I don't think so, hasn't the 11H got a pre-engaged starter,
different manifolds, carb and rocker cover compared to the late
       series 5Mb engine?

I'm not sure, I'll have to study my engine compared to the
series one. Is there a chance that it has had a referb engine in
with just a the newer block?
Might end up putting an older engine in to keep it more
original. And easier to get parts.

Thats a 8:1 high compression version I would be keeping it in.

i thought that it would be a better engine but just hope it isnt
harder to find the correct parts for.

My series 2a has a 5 mb engine fitted, this came from an early
       110. No problem getting parts, make sure they know where the
       engine came from.

Yes all the parts are easily available and most of them are the
       same as the S3 engine.
I have just been unlucky with my choice of supplier...
Not sure about the different starter, yes the manifolds are
different but I have heard that the S3 ones can be fitted? (ask
       an adult)
Carb is usually the twin choke weber, and the rocker cover
certainly looks the same as the one on my S3, but who knows?
