who the hell decided putting 200 tdi engine in a series was a go
od idea

Collected my new series 3 yesterday last owner had put a 200 tdi
in it minus the intercooler he told me it cruses happily at
55mph which I'm happy with.
On the way home I discovered speedo reads slow so 55 is actually
60 and I also had a bit of a play it gets to 80mph way too fast
and thats where I chickened out.
Christ long time since I had that much fun upsetting white van
men.
I was originally wanting a 2.25 now I'm hooked on the 200tdi so
much faster than the old discgay was of the mark.

Great........another convert!
They are great.
On the speedo thing, mine has 3.54 diffs so 28mph is about 40. It
can get quite interesting doing the maths coming into a built up
area after some serious cruising.
Glad you're happy with it bud. :lightblb: :smilewide:

You chickened out at 80? I've never managed the magic three
figures but, according to the sat-nav, once had 98 (on a disused
aerodrome, of course :rolleye0012: ) out of mine. I didn't
chicken out but the motor ran out of puff at that. It's still
not bad for something with the aerodynamics of a house brick.
Tdi's rock! >rock<

Whats it pull like using the 3.54 diffs?
Mine has overdrive but I'd like to get revs lower on engine and
transmission

Hill starts can be a pain you need to give it some but apart
from that whoosh!!! Laning can be a bit of an are occasionally,
especially if you closely following someone with 4:7:1 diff's.
Personally I wouldn't go back.

Our heavyweight Carawagons struggle a little on hill starts, as
said ^^^^^^^, but I usually drop into lo box if it's more than
a gentle hill - saves the clutch, especially when towing
:rolleye0012:
Keep the overdrive as well - that way, once you get to 50mph+
you can pop it in and everything goes really quiet :smilewide:
With 3.54 diffs, overdrive and a heavyweight Carawagon, I
usually average around 35mpg - that's with a mix of waggon
draughting, a bit of 55mph cruising (just at the bottom of the
torque curve with overdrive) and some 70mph when I get bored.
At 65mph with overdrive you're right in the torque curve so it
makes for easier driving than 55mph where you have to drop out
of OD for hills.
As I might have mentioned before, Patrick's Carawagon, with the
same setup but with massive roof box (below) and slightly larger
tyres (Mich XZY) averaged 39+mpg over 5000 miles on a Sahara
jaunt (calculated with gps tracker) :rolleye0012:
