Trying my best to make it more presentable. if im honest this
has got to be the "crappest" landrover ive bought to date.
everything is completely worn out or totally knackered. its
consuming my spares just to get it into a state where I would
consider it safe to drive. ive done three plates of welding
today and located another four.
at least the clutch is done and I can now move it
dashboard now works except water and fuel gauges but lights and
switches e.t.c all up and running. needs a top bearing for the
column and an indicator stalk.
think ill call it either crappy or stupid from now on

taxed it this morning, afterall the work ive done to get it
reasonable and after just 7 miles it had issues.
lost all the clutch fluid had to get it home with no clutch. on
return journey it developed a loud knocking which sounded like
the bottom end was about to part company with the rest of the
engine. im hoping its just a fuel issue and a severe diesel
knock as it stalled a few times aswell.
then it threw its fan belt off.
so hows that for a maiden voyage. "STUPID" thing.
ive order a new fuel line as the old one has a few joins in so
maybe its sucking air
also a new fuel filter and a filter housing has been ordered
aswell as another cltuch slave............ it will sort itself
out eventually.
also the engine appears to be breathing so I think my 2.5 may
have to go in once eveything else is sorted.

I think I may sort this out put a new mot on it and look for an
88" instead as where it goes down to the allotment its very
narrow and tight and it just skims the trees when turning. ive
not tried it with the long trailer yet.............

Looks like im winning with this now. fuel filter was not just
dirty it had filled up with black sludge that had gone rock hard
(barely any flow) i think who ever fitted the engine must have
just fitted the housing that was attached to it without changing
anything. now done runs ok for a 2.25 diesel.
clutch slave replaced, leak sorted
modified the alternator bracket to allow fitment of a Ford
Cortina fan belt. reason being I have more than I will ever need
(bought as spares for my Cortina's).
since belt and filter change, engine appears too run smoother
and run cooler than it did. had it upto 50mph didnt want to push
it anymore as it was a bit of a struggle to keep it in a
straight line, with the wandering steering :smilewide:
still gets warmer than it really should despite a previous owner
removing the thermostat. so im leaning toward a head gasket
fault.
