       Has anyone got....

A oil leak free Land Rover?.
Mine are, front and rear diff noses, transfer case bottom cover
and output seal, overdrive top cover, engine sump? I could go on
       but you get the drift.
To date the diffs where put back together with new seals and the
drive flange they run on, the transfer case has had new a gasket
so has the overdrive top cover the only one I've not tackled is
the engine sump but seeing as the rest still piss oil out I'm
thinking WTF spend a day under it covered in shit only to have
       it still drip.
Am I letting a defeatist attitude set in or is it possible to
stop the dam thing from leaking?
       All opinions and tips welcome.

Most folk who don't have oil leaks also never put oil in. ;D
I think all a anyone can hope for is to slow the leakage, make
sure that the seals are of decent quality and that the metal
they seal to isn't pitted or scored.
I've remade my T box and OD top plates from cork gasket sheet
and the sump plate also, this has stopped leaks from that area.
I think they tend to leak more if not driven often, maybe the
seals dry and shrink or loose their shape a little.

One of the secrets to stopping them losing oil is to actually
use them. It lubricates the seal lips. And we all know that
lubed lips is a good thing.

In some cases being ham-fisted with the "remove and refit"
method turns leak free components into the Exxon Valdez. My
mate's one of the worst culprits - his gorilla tightening on
sump bolts and gearbox cases / covers is frequently bad news,
and he needs reminding that a torque wrench is not just for
       cylinder head bolts!

I was at a local car show and there was an immaculate S1.
Somebody must have spent thousands on it. It was probably better
than the day it came out of the factory (I later heard he spent
       £4K on the paint job)
The owner was with it, so I said jokingly, "that's not a proper
Landrover, it doesn't have an oil leak anywhere" He was very
       not amused.

Had series 3 outside over night and so far it's not marked its
       territory unlike my van!
There are wet bits on mechanicals though

Mine only has two drips (Transfer rear output &one from the
engine) but everything seeps a little, as everything mechanical
has a film of oil on it :smilewide: Oh well, it's only parked
       on the road!
