Bonnet spare wheel mount.

Just got my bonnet spare wheel mount today.
Cheers Adam (monkeynuts) nice one.
I've stuck it on with some very wrong pop rivets for the time
being.
No fixings with it, but I got it at a bargain price.
Now I know that the fixings for these things are somewhat
.......err....sought after.
That probably means no new ones about and the opportunity to get
ripped off for some manky ones on eBay.
So I thought that I'd make my own up and save myself a lot of
hunting around.
All I need is some kind person to supply me with the basic
dimensions of the things.
I have to admit that in all my years of owning old Land Rovers
I've never actually had one with one of these mounts.
So the fixings are something of a mystery to me.
I've got the basic idea that you slacken the bolts, turn the
fixing clamps through 90º and off comes the wheel, but not much
else.
Just a basic drawing or photo will save me a lot of trial and
error.

Come on please folks.
IIRC these things are radiused on one side and straight on the
other.
I've just found a collection of turned steel discs, about 4" -
5" diameter, that are begging to see my angle grinder and
welder.
I just need a few basic dimensions please.

or you could use 2 long bolts of the appropriate thread and a
boingy thingy that goes between them, or just a piece of square
tube, or u channel

There is a problem with T Mobile/EE here in Shropshire.
Apparently it's a bandwidth problem due to the land line cables
which are connected to the cellular transmitters not having
sufficient capacity.
I've not been able to get any images off Google until this
morning, when everything seemed to work normally.
Now I have about 200 images of the things to go at.
I also found a load of related bits on EBay.
£40 BIN for a pair of battered looking clamps ???
Four little rubber pads £35 (fixings extra)
Happy to make my own thanks 8)
The battered galvanised finish won't be missed, everything is
going to be daubed NATO green and black.

I have 3 bonnets and non have the fixings but latest one has a
pair of bolts and a flat plate to clamp the wheel although due
to lack of locking the wheel is now in the rear

I'm ashamed to say that what I have settled for short term is
two rear spring shackle plates, cunningly cut up with my cutting
disc, and welded back together to form one solid bar, about 7"
long with two holes in it.
This is secured by two short diesel cylinder head bolts which
appear to be the correct 1/2" UNF thread.
I have a personal theory about "rare" (ie getting expensive now)
stuff.
When you're desperate and nobody seems to have what you need,
then you will get ripped off blind.
The more of a rush you are in the worse it will be.
Bodge around the problem and leave it be.
Pretty soon you'll trip over those bits somewhere for next to
nothing.
Of course it only works with some things, you can't do it with
crankshaft bearings. :-\

Iv'e been after a bonnet wheel mount for quite some time. I
spotted a bonnet complete with mount and all clamps
at my local independent LR place last Thursday while collecting
new door tops.
Some negotiation with the second hand parts chap resulted in
parting with £30.00 and it is now waiting for
a quick blast of marine blue and the jobs a good en.
Just proves that if you wait long enough, things turn up when
least expected,

No need to be ashamed of that. It's utilising available
resources! If it does the job that's all that matters. Better to
improvise and use the motor than get every rivet perfect and
just polish the damn thing...
