       Tracks to the Trenches (WW1)
By: Dave Date: September 19, 2014, 8:09 am

At the Apedale Valley Light Railway, near Newcastle Under Lyne,
       last Sunday.
The fact that the armies of both sides of the confilct used
hundreds of miles of 2ft. gauge railways to supply the lines
isn't something you see much about among the dozens of TV
programmes about the Great War but this interesting event
combined railway equipment and displays from historical groups
       and road vehicles.

I am liking the McEwan-Pratt - I think I might model one of
those, I have had a request for more 24" stuff after my Simplex
was released earlier in the week.

looks a great day. The tank has the Chinese eyes that were
issued to 4 RTR in the First world war as thank you to a
Malaysian business man that donated money to buy a tank.It
should have a name that begins with a D for 4RTR.My dad was in
4RTR and I had it drummed into me.that why my Champ has the name
       Donald.

I thought it may have been 1 RTR - who were known as 'cyclops'
but I doubt they would have been in existance back then?

Great pics, I remember my grandad telling me about the massive
network of small ( and sometimes not so small ) railways that
supplied just about everything to the front in many areas.. ( he
was actually a Horse / Mule driver and I've got a super pic of
him on one of his 'nags' )
