New toy, I mean essential Land Rovering bit of kit...

I'm not really one for new-fangled stuff where tools are
concerned so when the mechanics at the coach company I was
working at earlier in the year proudly showed off their Snap-On
cordless rattle guns I wasn't expecting to be impressed.
Cordless stuff is shite, right? Not a patch on an air gun. The
prices were as to be expected, off the wall for Snap-On (£600+)
but after using one I was seriously impressed. Massively
       powerful.
A useful bit of kit for tinkering with series motors I thought
to myself but not at that money. Knowing Snap-On are bound to
have bought these in from someone I did some research and found
Ingersoll-Rand are the manufacturer, and furthermore make a more
powerful 20 volt gun - the Snap-On is 18 volt. As I was heading
across the pond the thought of no VAT appealed and Amazon were
doing a blinding deal, $855 list price down to $455.73, approx
£275 at the exchange rate at the time. Extravagant? Maybe, but
bloody hell has it got some grunt. :smilewide:

Good buy! Bet that put a dent in your baggage allowance though
(mind you if you fly over the pond with a proper airline you
should get a decent weight anyway).

Yeah, it took up a fair amount Doug. I've got access to scales
over there so the checked bag tipped the check in scales at
50.0lb, so I got my moneys worth. :smile1 The whole kit is
under 20lb so not too bad.

Our riggers at work have huge 1" drive thing I borrowed it to
remove a crankshaft bolt once but it sheered off the proper
hardened 3/4" reducer I used  the grunt they have is
       amazing proper useful tool.

cordless impact guns are great little tools. My McAllister one
from B&Q only cost me £45 as it was an end of stock sale whilst
it might not have power of that superb bit of kit I have found
it extremely useful in allsorts of jobs.
