tyre size

Hi all
currently have 6.00 - 16 tyres fitted, could I replace these
with 7.50 - 16 to raise height slightly and does anyone know the
metric for this size.

You can but it will throw out your speedo. maybe 205s would be a
nice halfway house?

I think that 235/85 is the nearest equivalent to a proper
7.50x16.

i am running 225 70 16's with a standard petrol lump and
overdrive a fantastic option and the set of 5 cost £50 all BFG's
with 6/7mm tread. the size seams to be popular to take off
defenders and replace with 235's and boost alloys, i personaly
think they give a smoother drive without forever dropping down a
gear which i found with the 750's. For looks the 750/235 look
better balanced in my mind and when i finish fitting the Tdi the
size to go with along with RR diffs. if you wait you can buy
mine :rolleye0012:

The first thing I'd check Carl is what wheel rims you have.
Assuming they're standard Land Rover they'll have a part number
stamped on them. Ex-factory 6.00x16s were fitted on 5J rims and
7.50x16 on 5.5J rims. 235/85R16 is the nearest metric as Dave
says, but they are a fair bit wider (1.75 inches wider to be
exact). Check the specs with the tyre manufacturer, I've not
seen one yet that officially endorses fitting them to 5.5J rims
as they are too narrow although loads of people run them like
that. I don't, one ton or 130 rims at 6.5J are the way to go as
far as I'm concerned.
There are plenty of decent 750s out there as well as 235s, pros
and cons to going wider of course.

Hi, I've not been on the forum for some time , so hello from a
year or so back. 205s are the metric equivalent of 6.50s, 235s =
7.50s broadly. On my lightweight I've tried 235s and the ride as
a) higher and b) softer, but the tyres stick out by out 3cm as
the lwt is slabsided. If you're near to Hampshire you're welcome
to try them.
