200 tdi Engine height

Hi
Putting a 200 in my sons Series. I am using the 2/300 engine
mounts. Right, question is, as i am making chassis mounts to
suit. I can set the engine up on the gearbox and align the
engine so its parallel with the chassis ok but how do i know
when the engine is at the right height. Some piccys show cutouts
on the chassis to clear the mounts & some dont. How much
clearence should there be on the bulkhead tunnel? I want to get
the max clearence on the axle?
Its always simple when you know how. Proper ball ache when you
dont.

The height of the engine is governed by the gearbox, you don't
have to much room to lift or lower the whole unit so your mounts
will have to mate to the enigne and welded to the chassis where
they touch.
The mounts for the 200tdi are different to 300tdi, if you have a
200tdi the easiest way is to fit the engine mounts from the 21/4
enigne block to the 200tdi block, this way you don't need to
touch the chassis at all.
Is the land rover a long or short wheel base? If it's a swb the
turbo from the 200 will need to be "clocked" to fit, a 300 turbo
is in a totally different place and nowhere near the chassis, if
you've got a lwb a 200 turbo will need a scalloped out area in
the chassis to give clearance, again the 300 turbo clears the
chassis.

Thanks. I want to use the 200 tdi mounts. According to most they
absorb more vibration.

Have a 200 in my 88 crank pulley bolt is in centre of hole for
power offtake in front cross member using defender mounts on
series brackets.
If you lift the front too high the front output drive shaft will
not be parallel with the front diff which will give problems
with propshaft.

200 in my S3...std mounts no chopping req...on 2.25p rubber
mounts.

Similar to Serious Series, fitted my 200Tdi to the gearbox,
then aligned the crank pulley bolt to the centre of the front
PTO hole. This gave me the correct position for the 200Tdi
engine mounts. Cheers!
