Trailer Cable?

Like I did about 20+ years ago I have replaced the loom which
runs through the chassis with 7 core trailer cable.
I'll be using soldered bullet connectors for all the joints not
those wank scotchloc things.
Now I think I can remember reading somewhere that there are folk
who disapprove of this practice and/or claim that it could lead
to electrical failure or even a fire.
Any good reason for this?
Maybe just snobby rivet counters?
I never had any problems with the last Land Rover I did it with.
Towed trailers with side/front marker lights never had any
issues.
Checked the cable.
Wire sizes are 1 x 1.0mm squared and 6 x 0.65mm squared

I too have always soldered my crimp on connectors however some
people regard this as bad practice on a vehicle as the solder
runs down the wire and makes it ridgid then due to vibration it
can evantually fatigue and break :-?. The advice was to just
crimp. I am still undecided whether to solder or not.
You should have no issues with the trailer cable.

Never heard that one, but a quick calculation on those wire
sizes suggests that you will be right on the limit/over the
limit for the cable sizes

I'm thinking that the highest current for the 0.65mm wire would
be a nominal 3.5A
How far is that OTT?

Re-wired my rear end with 7 core a few years ago with crimped
male/female bullets at the joints.
Added tow socket wiring that I thought I'd never need again,
about a year ago.
Still all works fine.

Done a number of looms with trailer cable, worked perfectly, I
always crimped ( ensuring to do it firmly ), I also ran it under
rear tub through the gaps in underfloor braces, ....I think it's
mad to run anything inside chassis meself.

Both the 88 and FMW have been rewired with trailer cable and
have been fine for years. Crimped connectors done with a ratchet
crimper. Those cheap crimpers aren't very good in my experience.

Actually I'm wondering why I bothered running it through the
chassis.
Had intentions of staying with the original Rover harness.
Until I pulled it and saw the state it was in.
Sort of got carried away and put the trailer cable in there
instead.
Better clipped to the chassis with P clips and self tapping
screws maybe?
Going to stick with the soldered bullets because I can't afford
the expense of a quality crimping tool.
Just got to be quick with the iron and solder, don't let it
draw the solder up the wire behind the bullet.
Rather do that than use a cheap nasty crimper and have
connectors pulling off wires in the middle of nowhere.

I am just in the process of fitting a removable gear box cross
member. The worst job looks like being protecting the cable
running though the chassis. If damaged , by welding, I shall not
go back inside but outside,much easier to get at........you
never know. :-?

Rewired mine with ADR 7 core. No problems as yet. That is
basically cable tied to the top of the chassis. 1000 times
better that the old wires we pulled out. Better off not putting
it in the chassis as if it gets wet in there it takes a lot
longer to dry out. With the old loom you will probably be able
to squeeze water out of it that has been there for yonks.
