Sunday afternoon and I'd decided to make a start on the brakes.
Got new seal kits to fit all round.
Got both rear drums off.
Shoes OK if a bit low.
Nothing leaking anywhere.
One stuck piston freed off with a light tap.
One bleed nipple stuck fast.
Managed to persuade the cylinder off then roasted it on the gas
cooker a while.
Bleed nipple out.
Cleaned everything up with 1000 grade wet and dry.
Feeling quite pleased with myself and ready to put it all back
together.
NO FUCKING SEAL GREASE!

When Girling still made seal kits you used to get a little
silver sachet of special grease with each set of seals.
Fuck all here except some paper gaskets that don't fit anything

Two mile walk to the nearest motor parts shop in the morning.
If you can still get the stuff.
Just wondering if there's anything else that will do the job
without attacking the seal rubber.
I got some Copperslip but I think it's probably mineral oil
based.

I had to get mine online, none of the motor factors knew what
the stuff was!!!

Found a little plastic tub of white rubber grease.
At least that's what it was sold to me as about five years ago.
Only about 5g and going hard.
Managed to warm it up until it softened a bit.
Just about enough to smear the piston skirts with.
Any chance you can remember where you bought the red stuff
online?
When I change the shoes I can get a small syringe, pull back
the dust seals and put the proper stuff in there.

Theres shitloads of the stuff on ebay, around three quid for a
little pot.

£7 for 100g with the P&P
Should last for a while now.
