I always thought the fastest combat helicopter was Mi-24 (newly
reborn as Mi-35) - still have a few of these here (both
variations). Very impressive piece of kit.

It seems from specifications that the Russian Mil
Mi-24/Mi-25/Mi-35 Hind is a tiny bit faster than the Lynx (I
remembered this from air show commentaries - kept listening very
carefully back then, being a teenage aircraft fan back then),
but has probably never run for the Guiness Book of World Records
entry - except perhaps in terms of usage in the highest number
of civil wars, sometimes by both sides...?
Specifications (Super Lynx Series 100) - data from Flight
International World Aircraft and Systems Directory (3rd ed.)
- Maximum speed: 324 km/h (201 mph)
- Range: 528 km (328 miles) with standard tanks
Specifications (Mi-24) - data from Indian-Military.org
- Maximum speed: 335 km/h (208 mph)
- Range: 450 km (280 miles)
- Service ceiling: 4,500 m (14,750 ft)
On a lighter note, the Soviets back in the days of glory claimed
to be the first and best in virtually any field of human
knowledge - there was an old book from 1950's or 1960's, in
which all things invented in the Soviet Union (and its
predecessors) were listed, including things like the bulb or the
internal combustion engine...
Fortunately, our school textbooks were compatible with real
facts - well, in most cases they were ::)
By the way, really love the picture, this kind of yellowish warm
light early or very late in the day is great for taking pictures
